Palm Pre data loss: Are you affected?

It has been reported that Palm Pre owners have been suffering from data loss, after problems have occurred with Palm’s cloud backup service – where contacts, calendar items, memos and tasks are usually supposed to be kept safe.
As reported from Apple Insider, Palm are now investigating this issue after hundreds of users have been complaining about their data not returning.
We also know that Palm’s WebOS devices such as the Pre and Pixi are not designed to sync with a desktop PC, meaning that users can’t back up their own phones without buying third party software on top.
This news will be a timely reminder of the huge problems that T-Mobile Sidekick users faced after the Microsoft-owned Danger servers went down, causing chaos for weeks.

My Palm Pre has all data intact. I suspect the so-called data loss may be propaganda from Apple.

The Palm tech support group (and they have never failled me) tells me that the data is gone. Bye Bye. Seeya. Most of my contact info was fed from my gmail account, which, contrary to Palm’s contention, is now also hosed. I have exported my gmail contacts into a CSV file, and plan to attempt to scrub that file to see if I can manipulate it back into a new contacts file. My biggest concern is that Palm has no anticipated date for a fix, and my productivity has plunged. I’m seriously disappointed in Palm, for the first time since I began supporting them in 1998. My Pre #4 is awaiting activation, but why activate if the problem still exists? Sad to see Palm’’s demise. Good luck to us.
I, too, have suffered from data loss & I didn’t know what was causing my calendar & contacts info to ‘disappear’…Gee, thanks Palm for letting us know there was a ‘problem’ and it wasn’t just me doing something wrong with syncing the phone! I am also on my 4th Pre in 6 months, and I am also severely disappointed with Palm as well.
I lost over 1500 contacts. Palm said they would call me back in a couple of days over a week ago. I’m on my 9th pre in 4 months.
I, too, lost my contacts, emails, and personal items on the Pre. I just now realized what happened and reading some these comments I see that the problem continues and may for some time. I wish I had bought an iPhone instead.
