Black Friday 2009 sales, the shopper, item, and costs
By: Peter Chubb | November 26, 2009 | Leave a CommentWith just over one day to go until Black Friday 2009, shoppers now have that horrible task of getting up early on the morning of November 27 and then stand is queues for hours. These massive crowds are like a frenzy that we only see when aid is being issued to people less fortunate than ourselves.
According to a report in the Washington Post, around 77 million Americans will make their way to stores this Black Friday, which is said to be the start of the holiday shopping season. This year it is just one day after Thanksgiving, so does not give you long to spend with your family.
We often wonder if it is worth queuing up for hours in the cold just to save a few dollars, the answer to most would be yes. However, that shopping frenzy will not just stop on Friday, it will continue throughout the weekend until we get to Cyber Monday.
To many, Black Friday is worth the hassle, more so now considering the economy. Shoppers have much less money than they did last year, and have saved up all year for this event.
Early signs show that the Black Friday promotions this year are not as great as last year’s, but retailers know that they have to maintain a fine balance between getting customers in the door, but also not losing money by giving stuff away.
