Toyota to Recall 3.8M Vehicles for Gas Pedal Repair

The sticking gas pedal problem with certain Toyota vehicles has now been resolved, well it will be once the 3.8 million cars come in for a recall. The affected vehicles will have their gas pedals reconfigured or in some cases, replaced. The pedal issue had first been blamed on the floor mats.

Starting in January, dealers will begin the repairs; this will finally stop the gas pedals getting stuck on the floor mats. According to USA Today, the vehicles affected by the recall include the “2007-2010 Toyota Camry, the 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, the 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, the 2005-2010 Tacoma, the 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, the 2007-2010 Lexus ES 350 and the 2006-2010 Lexus IS 250 and IS 350.”

This recall is a serious matter, as the gas pedal problem was the cause of the death of family after their 2009 Lexus ES 350 lost control and ended up catching fire after crashing through an embankment.

A number of Toyota vehicles also have issues with their stop and start button, it takes around three seconds of your finger on the button for the engine to turn off. However, nothing is mentioned in this recall about that problem.

This is not the first recall that Toyota has had to issue in recent days; yesterday they had to announce an extended recall of its Tundra trucks. This is due to a rust problem on the underneath of the vehicles. Read more about that recall in our recent post.
