Stores suffer post-Thanksgiving 2009 Sales
Filed under: News

US stores have been feeling the pinch just recently, they know that shoppers have been holding off purchasing anything for Christmas until this weekends post-Thanksgiving sales, this includes Black Friday, the Saturday and finally, Cyber Monday. Only then will shoppers return to stores and start their frenzied run-up until Christmas.
According to an article on FT.com, MasterCard Advisors’ SpendingPulse compiled a report for the first two weeks of November. In this report, it showed that sales on clothing and other luxury goods showed the same signs they have done year-on-year.
Sales on high-priced name brand clothing have fallen 5 percent from the same period last year, last months sales were a little better, so does show the pattern that shoppers will not buy in the build-up to Black Friday. These retailers always expect this; so have to be prepared to take the rough with the smooth.
Retailers have no idea how the shopping season will go this year, but it is no secret that they seem cautious when it comes to spending. However, the report does suggest that although sales have been low since the summer, they are playing a waiting game to send what deals retailers will offer in the run-up to Christmas.
Retailers also have to face the facts that once Cyber Monday is out of the way, then shoppers will slow down on spending again. Things will not pick up until 7 to 10 days before Christmas, unless stores continue with aggressive sales.
