iPhone, Verizon Wireless and the mystery of AT&T’s exclusivity
Filed under: Cell Phones, Handsets

Back in 2007 something big happened in the cell phone market, and that was the launch of the Apple iPhone. AT&T was the carrier who managed to get hold of the exclusivity deal, this has proved to be one of the best deals they have ever made. Since then, there have been continued rumors of Verizon also getting the iPhone.
AT&T’s exclusive deal with Apple comes to an end some time in 2010, and with the carrier struggling to meet the demands of iPhone users; we have to wonder how they can renew its deal with Apple. AT&T’s cause will not be helped by the recent Verizon TV Ads, which points out the lack of 3g coverage in the AT&T network.
Cnet have been talking about a recent interview with an Apple analyst, in that interview with Bloomberg News, Brian Marshall said he suggested that Apple try and secure a deal with Verizon, as they are the logical choice when AT&T’s deal with Apple comes to an end next year.
There are no official sources to say when AT&T’s deal with Apple ends, but the rumors say that it will be in the summer of 2010. This date would be the third anniversary for AT&T with the Apple iPhone, not a nice gift if Apple does pull the plug.
A deal with Verizon is very likely, although there are a few details that need to be ironed out first. One thing is certain; a Verizon iPhone is something that the U.S. consumer has been wanting since 2007.
