Microsoft Facing Lawsuit Following Blocking Unauthorized Storage Devices

By: Jamie Pert | November 24, 2009 | 1 Comment

Back in late October we warned you how Microsoft would be blocking some unauthorized storage devices with a future update, well since this update was released it has left a few companies extremely angry with Microsoft’s actions.

One of these disgruntled companies is Datel, over the years Datel have manufactured a wide-range of accessories for a lot of different consoles including the Xbox 360.

Datel have filed an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft, a Datel attorney released the following statements “Microsoft has taken steps to render inoperable the competing Datel memory card for no visible purpose other than to have that market entirely to themselves,” and added “They accomplished their recent update by making a system change that will not recognize or allow operation of a memory card with greater capacity than their own. We believe that with the power Microsoft enjoys in the market for Xbox accessories this conduct is unlawful.

I feel that this lawsuit has more of a chance of succeeding to other recent lawsuits against Microsoft, for full details check out Joystiq.

Yes they are in the wrong, they are getting way to greedy. Like it said they have no other reason to block these third party storage devices than to have the market as their own.
