Else Linux Phone: iPhone and Android Killer?

Today was a special day, as it was the unveiling of the first Else Linux Phone. There are those who say or hope that this will be the iPhone and Android killer, but we have heard it all before. However, this is the first time that I have heard or used the statement, “Android Killer”’ that is usually reserved for the iPhone.

According to eWeekEurope.co.uk, the upcoming handset was shown to guests in a darkened room, and only Else staff was allowed to touch the new device. The new handset goes back to basics for users, but will still handle communications and multimedia functions.

The strange thing is, Else people say that this is not actually a phone, they state that the device adapts to you not the other way round. The user interface used is called “Splay” and options are made by using your thumb.

The handset has a 3.5-inch touchscreen and has a choice of 16GB and 32GB storage, much the same as the Apple iPhone 3GS. There are a number of great features, such as all calls being recorded, not sure how this stands up legally though.

    Name them.

I am personally *SICK AND TIRED* of these ridiculous kind of claim used to discredit every single Linux based product. On every new product release we see these slew of articles claiming that “someone” called the product a “Windows killer” or an “iPhone killer” but when challenged the media outlets pushing this BS never clarify who said it or in what context. Instead, the claims snowball as one media outlet cites another media outlet’s “competition killer” headline, and then this is used as a way to discredit the effort, brushing it off as “hype”.

you’re missing the point here… killer or not, it stands for itself. it’s simply the coolest, most efficient mobile I’ve come across..
I hate the fact that I need both hands to use my current phone, sometimes I’m holding 5 bags in one hand and an important call comes in, this phone solves this problem. not only that, when I’m recording something of taking a picture or a video, the call comes in and ruins everything! it won’t happen here….
Can’t wait to put my finger on it… :)
