Chrome OS and Android are likely to merge at some point
By: Peter Chubb | November 24, 2009 | Leave a CommentSergey Brin one of the co-founders of Google has said that Chrome OS and Android would at some point merge into one. Not long after last week’s unveiling of Google Chrome OS, Brin was speaking to Cnet about the future of both Chrome and Android.
According to DesktopLinux.com, the major obstacle with such a merger is how Android uses native applications, which get downloaded and stored on the hard drive of the selected device. Chrome works differently, in the way that apps are run from web-based software.
When Chrome OS was announced back in July, both Google founders played down any possibility of such a merger. They did say that Android might be able to run small netbooks, but it was Chrome OS that would run laptops and desktops.
There have been a few announcements of less powerful netbooks running on Android, but that’s about it. Many assumed that when Google Chrome was announced, then Android would be slowly phased out, but there is no sign of that happening any time soon.
