Black Friday 2009: QVC plans sales to keep people watching
By: Peter Chubb | November 23, 2009 | Leave a CommentBlack Friday is just a few days away now and one retailer who does not normally get involved in the sales is QVC. However, this year things are different for the television retailer as they plan an aggressive strategy to keep their loyal shoppers watching.
The problem is, it is no secret that QVC viewing figures and sales normally suffer on Black Friday, but as sales for 2009 are already lower than usual, QVC knew that they had to change their way of thinking so their sales coverage will begin from Thanksgiving night.
Dave James has his work cutout, as the host will stay awake for the 28-hour shopping marathon. According to AP, QVC have always treated Black Friday as any other day, but this big sale event has been in the planning stages for months.
QVC’s fourth quarter in 2008 was 8 percent lower than the same period in 2007; the same quarter for 2009 is almost flat. However, the price of the items that QVC are selling this year is a little lower than the previous year, in the hope of tempting shoppers.
QVC will begin its Black Friday coverage from 8 p.m. EST on Thanksgiving and will offer three special value items on the day. For hot deals now, visit www.qvc.com
