Black Friday 2009: Dell’s Verizon Motorola Droid Deal

If you have not yet purchased a Motorola Droid yet this next deal may be of interest to you, currently Dell are offering a Black Friday deal on the handset which will allow you to get hold of the handset for just $119.99.

To be eligible for the $119.99 pricing you must agree a two-year deal with Verizon Wireless, if however you would like to buy the handset contract free it will set you back $559.99.

Many are regarding the Motorola Droid as the strongest competition for Apple’s iPhone 3GS, therefore this pricing may really boost Motorola’s popularity, the handset features a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 5 megapixel camera, Android 2.0 and much more.

For full details on the deal check out PhonesReview, if you would like to take advantage of the deal straight away check out Dell’s website, you may want to act quickly as we are unsure as to when this deal will expire.

My main concern regarding the Droid and getting a two year contract is the operating system and if it will be around for two years. I am not a computer guy or up-to-speed on any of the systems, so balance my comment against that. I use Verizon as my carrier (contract expires in March 2010, and am also a Mac person. I will hold out on purchasing any new phone until the business situation between Verizon and iPhone becomes official…one way or the other.

Seriously?? It’s an Android OS Phone. Open software(which means, apps dont have to have Apple approval before being launched on the market). Android OS is by Google.

  3. Dan says:

@Dee – Android is not by Google, but they are the main supporter and have their own heavily customized version or it which is the only version you’ll find of it in the wild.

@Stan – If you want to wait for an iphone, have fun with that. I wouldn’t be worried about shelf life, Android is going to stick around for a good, long time, and Google being the major supporter is just the biggest reason: It’s completely open source (the Google apps aren’t, oh well), easy to develop for, you can gain root easily, and has great performance across hardware. I’m going to go ahead and say that the massive behemoth that is Verizon isn’t going anywhere either, but I would miss their commercials slamming AT&T if they did.
