Amazon’s ready for Cyber Monday 2009
By: Peter Chubb | November 23, 2009 | 1 CommentFor those of you who thought that Cyber Monday was a U.S. only event, then you would be wrong. According to an article in the Guardian, Amazon UK is now gearing up for the busiest Internet shopping day of 2009. Workers in the warehouse in Milton Keynes all know that this will be their busiest period yet.
A whole range of products will be made available at discounted prices, these include toys, TVs, laptops, cameras, DVDs and Blu-rays and much more. Last year on Cyber Monday, Amazon told The Guardian that they shifted more than 1.4 million items on its UK site.
This means that they sold 16-items per second, which was the most in over a 24-hour period. Amazon estimates that they will increase sales by 21 percent to 36 percent this Cyber Monday, as a result has had to recruit more workers in the build up to Christmas.
Amazon is not worried about the recent and future Royal Mail strikes, as they have deals with a number of other delivery firms. Currently, Amazon has four distribution centers in the UK, but there are plans to open a fifth in Peterborough. This is only a temporary measure during the busy Christmas season.
