Sony Offers Insane Modern Warfare 2 PS3 Deal: No Subscription Fee

Sony Offers Insane Modern Warfare 2 PS3 Deal: No Subscription Fee

By: Daniel Chubb | November 22, 2009 | 18 Comments

Just a couple of days ago we posted some news about Xbox LIVE Gold being free for the weekend, and while this is a deal that many Xbox 360 owners would jump on, we have to wonder what Xbox 360 owners think about the subscription fee?

Today we see a post on 360-deals.com, which writes about Amazon offering a good Modern Warfare 2 deal for late adopters. The limited-time offer gives buyers a year of Xbox LIVE gold for $29.99, when purchased with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

This deal is improved with a free $10 credit for Modern Warfare 2 purchases. Now comes the question; when will Xbox 360 gamers wake up to having to pay for the online service?

Modern Warfare 2 is pretty equal on both the PS3 and 360, but Sony offers a more insane Modern Warfare 2 deal, No Subscription Fee. You get to play the game online for free, and the PSN and Xbox Live services are equal.

So Xbox 360 owners, why do you still pay for a service that’s free on the PS3?

lol, one million people paying for online gaming then being banned en masse.

this is where valve has got it wrong saying that xbox live is superior and you have 2 pay, are they on crack? Chet Faliszek, Valve\’s project leader of the Left 4 Dead series recently commented that the PS3 is not suitable for Left 4 Dead 2,big mistake in my opinion PS3s got all the players wanting a slice now.

Another reason the PS3 wins, and why I got one. That and it’s better engineered.

There are a few small perks dealing with how you interact with your friends on the 360 but over all it’s right the online services are the same quality. But microsoft is phenomenal at making you pay more buy selling u bare bones and then requiring you to buy specific things that are up charged so that you can even use their things. But you’ll always have that hard core fan boys that believe if they are paying it must be better.

It’s why i sold my 360 for a ps3. Have already spent £120 for on-line. In my experience its better on ps3 but is probably due to the fact I played COD 2 on 360 and now playing COD6 on pd3, but still, £120 to play on-line for 3 years! No fanboy can convince me the justice in this can they? Come on fanboys, try your hardest :-)

Waits for the alarms to go off in Redmond, and the army of brainwashed idiots arrive to starts shouting that Gold means “Netflix” (PS3 can do that too now), ” X-Game Party Chat” (who wants to interrupt gaming to talk to someone playing a different game?).

PSN is a FAR better service, for free. It’s got dedicated servers for most PS3 exclusives, and the paid-for Xbox Live, relies on inferior and laggy P2P networking.

Xbox Live is littered with advertising and has no redeeming qualities at all.

I am waiting for the LIVE supporters to come in and bash the writer and other posters.

    Here are my two cents.

First things first I own a PS3. And I’ve had it for three years now. I have not experienced Xbox Live, so I don’t know first hand what they have to offer but I have read a lot of stories online and gamers comments.

PSN has come a long way from it’s inception. Right now, PSN is nearly on par with Live. There two things LIVE has that PSN does not. That is cross game chat and avatar gaming interaction.

Cross Game Chat is coming within six months or so. Right now, I can use in-game XMB to send friends messages and text chat. I can also do Cross Game Invites (if the developer leverages the features).

As for Avatar Gaming Interaction, I don’t think that will ever come to PSN. Unless you use HOME. But that is no biggy. Sony will want Developers to leverage HOME for the casual gamers to do gaming with their avatars.

From a developement side, I think that LIVE has PSN beat. Microsoft built a sound solid network from the start. And they should have. They are a software company. So everything is there from the start and it’s in their package.

Sony on the other hand, has piece mealed features as they develop them. Sony is not natively a software company. They are a hardware company. Which most PS3 fans give Sony a little slack.

An example is the ability for Game Invite and Session Joining. MW2 was able to properly utilize this feature of PSN. It’s not something they (IW) had to build themselves. It’s actually part of PSN now. It will just be a matter or time until this becomes the norm for all PS3 Multiplayer games.

Speaking of Multiplayer, the actual gaming experience on both PSN and LIVE should be fairly the same. It depends on the game and your internet connection. Most games rely of P2P Networking. Few actually have Dedicated Servers. No winners here.

The thing that I am looking forward to is the PS4. By then (around 2012), PSN would be 6 years old and it would be a whole package for developers like LIVE. And the best part is that it’s FREE. I only pay for the game and that’s it.

But I see both services fairly equal. With addition of Netflix to PS3, I no longer find that LIVE is any better than PSN. In a year or so, the main difference will be preference. And preference will be based each individuals taste and history with each console. Those who use LIVE more will prefer it over PSN. Those who use PSN more will prefer it over LIVE. And that everyone should be able to live with. I think that PSN users will be better off because they don’t have to pay a subscription fee.

OK. I am done for now. I think that I was fairly level headed in my rant. If you reply, please do the same.

this is not news this is called starting a flam war worst news site ever.

XBox live is BETTER so it’s worth paying $30 a year. If you don’t feel like paying, and are smart enough to figure it out, there is a way to play for free. Besides, I don’t like that stupid gaystation controller. The analog stick are to close together. The Xbox controller is perfect in button/stick placement, weight, everything. Again THERE IS A WAY TO PLAY ON XBOX LIVE FOR FREE!!! gaystation blows!

  • RROD again!

@Slaytanic : typical Xbot away n reapir you 3-fix-me for the 8th time , ps controller is far better and so is playing online for free and accessing all the features your console is designed for , when was last time you looked at sales charts mate PS3 is kicking ass , to be fair i like both consoles, but PS3 is better all round system, with better exclusives – Forza 3 what a crock of sheeeeeeet

  • dududu

Forza 3 isn’t THAT bad.. its the best thing out on either Xbox or PS3. Of course, that will most likely change when GT comes out.. soooo thats when I’ll be selling off my xbox, steering wheel and all the games I’ve not finished due to boredom, cancelling my xbox subs, and joining the PS3 bandwagon like so, so, soo many of my friends have already done.
I rate PS3 for one reason: PSN. The store let me play FF7 on my PSP once again. God bless them.

because we have the money to do that :D and xbl is way better than psn nuff said

No Offence To You Microsoft Fan Boys

  • KINOFWAWA

yeah, i mean we paying for internet access already, not to mention the huge price tag you have to save up for to get the game. BAD MARKETING strategy, (lets have the gamers pay for play time) will never sell, and their go's your all important record sales rate. xbox marketing dumbeards
