Google Chrome OS Underwhelms for a Reason
By: Peter Chubb | November 22, 2009 | Leave a CommentWe reported on Thursday that Google unveiled its Chrome OS to a packed crowd at a recent event. It was not that long before critics were saying that the newest operating system was unimpressive and underwhelming. However, according to PC World, Google Chrome underwhelms for a reason.
Most of us have missed the point of the new Google Chrome OS, it is meant to be lean and simple, thus making it fast. Google have designed something that the user wants, and that is limited hardware support and more centered around apps.
Google have not changed their vision, everything they do has always been simple in its design, and Chrome OS is no different. This goes all the back to 1998, when they offered a search engine that was not cluttered like the ones of that time. It was no secret that the search engines of that time offered its users information on weather, sports, entertainment and other news all from its home page. As you would imagine, this slowed the search engine home pages down.
Google saw a gap in the market and offered to us the Google Search engine, but what we had was nothing but a clean white page and a search box. It is this simple design that Google strives for in its software today and Google Chrome OS is a fine example of this.
