Verizon BlackBerry Tour: OS 4.7.1.61 Update release

Some news for BlackBerry Tour owners on Verizon now, as there has just been an official OS update for the handset. The firmware now stands at 4.7.1.61 and is available to download from Verizon’s website and via BlackBerry Desktop Manger.

As BGR reports though, those of you who are too lazy to use the above methods to download, can wait for the OTA update to go live, which is expected to happen today.

As for changes within the update, not a lot is known, as the change log has not been released yet. So it looks as if RIM are preparing to unleash 5.0 for Tour users soon, hurry up already.

The upgrade took about 30 minutes via the Desktop Manager 5.0.1. I have noticed an increase in speed and how it reacts. I have also noticed that it has halfway solved the problem with the backlight going off in the first 5 seconds as well as the trackball hasn’t stuck on me yet. I did this yesterday (11/19/2009).

I downloaded it 3 days ago and haven’t noticed much of an improvement with the track ball. What IS DIFFERENT IS THE MISSED CALL LOG YOU HAVE TO GET THROUGH AFTER A MISSED CALL TO GET TO THE HOME SCREEN. This is not good. It downright sucks and if you ask me it’s overkill and i cannot turn the fuction off…someone please help!

  3. Brandon says:

It has cut the battery pull restart time in half. My phone went from 11 minutes for a restart down to 6 minutes.

i did an OTA upgrade, and i have also noticed a nice speed bump and just overall increase in clickiness (sp?)… curious to see what RIM has to say about the upgrade.

  5. Joe says:

My battery life is worse after the update. I usually use about a 1/4 of battery and now it runs out at the end of the day. I charge nightly.
