Sprint HTC Hero: Firmware update released

Sprint HTC Hero: Firmware update released

By: Alan Ng | November 19, 2009 | 2 Comments

We have some good news for Sprint HTC Hero owners now, as an OTA firmware update is now available to download and install, which mainly addresses a collection of known bugs that were present in the phone.

As reported from BGR, those who update will now see the firmware version move to v1.56.651.2. One specific area that has been targeted is a problem with SMS which caused significant battery drain.

At the moment, that is all we know, as Sprint has not issued a change log with all the rest of the changes. When we get this though, we’ll update this post.

Have you already updated to the latest firmware? If so, do you notice any other significant changes?

Hello, I installed the update early yesterday morning. I just happened to try for an update and was surprised to find one. Since installing it, the phone has been very slow and at times does not respond when trying to turn it on. I have considered trying to restore it to see if it removes the software update, or if i at least bet better results.

Hello, just downloaded the firmware update today. Install went smoothly took about 7 minutes from start to finish. Everything seems to be rock solid and runs smoothly. Unlike the previous poster I have not noticed any sluggishness at all, in fact I would dare say it is even faster than before. Other than that the only noticeable changes i have seen so far is that the mute and speakers functions are now able to be toggled directly from the calling screen, no more having to hit menu
