iPhone, Verizon and ridiculing AT&T: First legal battle

AT&T were not happy with the TV ads that Verizon have been showing, they tried to file a lawsuit but their first legal battle was lost. This means that AT&T trying to force Verizon to stop showing those TV ads comparing their 3G wireless network coverage will continue.

According to Cnet, AT&T were declined their request for a temporary restraining order by a judge in Atlanta yesterday. AT&T was so upset by this shock decision that they have launched an ad of their own. However, if you watch the ad, it looks as though it has been put together in five minutes.

AT&T maintain that Verizon are misleading customers, they are doing this by telling them that if they subscribe to AT&T, they will not be able to gain access to its Internet services over its 3G network. AT&T say that the ads are false, Verizon hit back by saying that they are true and that the truth hurts.

The ad in question shows two maps with 3G coverage areas, one for AT&T, the other for Verizon. The ad then shows that Verizon has great 3G coverage, where AT&T’s coverage is very poor.

Let us know what you think of the court’s verdict.

i have at&t. it is ****** garbage. thanks.
the only reason i switched from verizon was for the iphone.
little did i know how bad at&t was.
    fail.

I truly believe that, if it is proven in a court of law, that your advertisements are truly misleading and false that your business license should be revoked with no regard to the reprocussions.

That having been said, AT&T -> truth hurts. I have been with AT&T since the days of Cingular. The second the Cingular logo disappeard so, too, did their Quality of service.

As soon as my contract is up, so too is my stint with crappy service.

  3. Casey says:

There is nothing false about the Verizon ads. AT&T 3G coverage sucks.
I do find the AT&T ad misleading. They claim to have the ‘fastest’ 3G network. However, side-by-side phone comparisons often show Verizon is faster. How do they substantiate their claim?

  4. George says:

I also switched from Verizon to go to AT&T because I wanted the iPhone. AT&T voice and 3G services sucks. If Verizon get the iPhone some time soon, I will be going back to Verizon.

  5. Taylor says:

    AT&T service stinks.

John, A common misconception is that the Cingular service “changed” when AT&T got involved. It is spurned by the belief that AT&T took it over. Cingular was owned by Bell South and South Western Bell (SBC). SBC purchased the remaining assets of a failed AT&T including the brand name. SBC (now called AT&T) then “merged” with Bell South, the other owner of Cingular. Since all of the involved companies had merged and re-branded themselves to AT&T, they also changed the brand of Cingular to AT&T. No cell towers were torn down, stores were not closed, and the coverage was never reduced as a result of the change to AT&T since the only real result was the sign outside their doors.

  7. Scott says:

I say open up the iPhone to all carriers and let the customer choose. It all means the same for Apple they will not get hurt, in fact they will prosper the most second only to there customers. We all know that a happy customer makes for a prosperous business.

I have been a Verizon customer for years now. If the iPhone had been available for my carrier i would have had one long ago.

  8. I agree that AT&T is one of the worst for customer service. It is bad enough that they service is bad, but the individuals in customer service are RUDE–all the way up to the corporate office. I hope this giant does get taken down.

  9. Andy says:

At least with at&t you can access internet anywhere in their network. with verizons extended network you can only get voice calls.

  10. Cleo says:

iPhone: The world’s greatest phone on the world’s sh*ttiest network. AT&T has made my life a living hell for the past year. As soon as the iPhone goes to Verizon I go too. Even if AT&T offered me free service to stay I will still leave. They ripped me off like masked bandits. Thet deserve to lose every customer they lose in January 2010. Say hello to bankruptcy, assh*les.
