Firefox 3.6 Update: Adds lockdown feature for add-ons

It has been reported that Mozilla are planning to update the latest version of Firefox (now at v3.6), to prevent developers from including add-ons into Firefox without Mozilla’s consent.

As reported from ComputerWorld, the feature will be known as ‘component lockdown directory’, and as you might of guessed will prevent developer access to Mozilla’s component directory.

Mozilla state that the reason for the changes is for added stability and user control purposes – which will now allow Mozilla to disable any add-ons that they think may cause harm to Firefox.

We’ll let you know when the update is available. Full article is over at Computer World, let us know what you think about the changes.
