Windows Mobile 6.5: Not Coming to XPERIA X1
Filed under: Cell Phones, Phone Software

Since the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 we have seen a lot of Windows Mobile handsets receive the update to this latest OS version, however according to Sony Ericsson this will not be the case for their XPERIA X1.
Some of the handsets that have received the update include the HTC Touch Diamond2 and the Garmin Nuvifone M20.
It is thought that there will be no official release of the OS for the XPERIA X1, however there is a chance that an unofficial version may be developed, however installing this OS version could be a huge risk.
Exactly why Sony Ericsson are not offering the update is unclear, perhaps there is a major incompatibility, or perhaps they are just concentrating on future handsets such as the XPERIA X10, find out more on SlashGear.
Are you frustrated at the lack of an official Windows Mobile 6.5 update for the XPERIA X1?

It is frustrating but then the Xperia X2 is on the way and if you’ve got any of the problems I’ve got with the X1, you’d probably rather just bite the bullet and upgrade the handset.
The X1 was very disappointing, but the X2 on the other hand looks a lot slicker and with Windows Mobile 6.5 plus some improved features (like the camera and the panels) it may be worth it if you’re close to your 12 months with Xperia X1.
If not, then you can go on XDA Developers and download a firmware which includes 6.5 for the X1.
