Plasma uses gas plasma cells charged by precise electrical voltages to create a picture.LCD screens (liquid crystal display) are in layman’s terms sandwiches made up of liquid crystal pushed in the space between two glass plates. Images are created by varying the amount of electrical charge applied to the crystals.
Just wonder how many Sanyo 50″ TV’s Wal-Mart have to sell. Just a few probably just a few…
I’ve owned this TV for about a month, and have watched a variety of high def material on blu-ray and high def channels. Overall, I think this is an outstanding plasma TV and a great value. Black values are great. Image quality is crisp. Sports look great, no problems at all that I can see with scanning rates on sports/high speed action activity. The 3:2 pulldown for 24 frame per second film material works well. I’ve got a very large window right behind my viewing area, and the although there are some reflections on the glass, the anti-reflective coating is much better than my last TV, and as good as any I have seen. I also have my iMac connected with an HDMI cable (using a DVI to HDMI adapter) and the picture is outstanding. I’m able to watch high def video rentals from Netflix, Amazon, and iTunes.
The only negatives are:
Speakers point down and are a bit weak, but I use my surround sound system for all the audio, so not a big issue for me.
I agree with other reviews that the light output of the THX setting is too low. Perhaps in a perfectly dark screening room it would work. But in a typical viewing room, the THX images are not bright enough. However, I was able to achieve excellent color and better light output using the custom settings and am very pleased with the results.
