PS3 Cross-game chat: Confirmed by Sony (More or less)

By: Alan Ng | November 18, 2009 | 3 Comments

The infamous PS3 cross-game chat rumors continue to swirl around the internet, with bits of info always popping up here and there. Recently, we have come one step further to an official confirmation after a Sony employee revealed a bit too much info than intended.

As reported from Eurogamer, James Thorpe who is a product manager for the Playstation Network, was replying to readers comments on a thread all about the upcoming Facebook features for the PS3.

Key words from him include ‘”I wish I could just give you a date, I really do!!” and ”I hope, like you all do, that its sooner rather than later.”

Turns out that those really ‘were’ key words, as Sony has now deleted his comments. Oops. Don’t forget that a developer for Naughty Dog also hinted about cross-game chat coming in a firmware update, so is it now time for Sony to spill the beans?

I am wondering if EA and Activision/IW are against cross game chat to help prevent cheating.

Infinity Ward removed that feature from the XBox360 version of the game for this same reason.

Makes you wonder doesnt it…why it has taken so long to come out.

And your right, we did write a report up a while ago about ‘EA holding cross-game chat back’, so there is obviously something going on behind the scenes..

How lame is it that me and my ps3 buddies all use xbox live to play on the playstation so we can chat we all love playstation always have but we all bought 360s just so we could talk live to each other on another system we turn them both on and use live for ps3. The bad part abouut it is we all have spent hundreds of dollars on 360 games and downloads and cool avatar stuf i probably spent a cool G on downloads why wouldnt playstation want that money all because playstation chat SUCKS and so does its user interface needs to improve oh well still love my ps3 though ill keep waiting.
