By: Jamie Pert | November 17, 2009 | 2 Comments

Earlier on this month we introduced you to the Saygus VPhone, the handset offered some pretty impressive specifications, however at the time we were unsure whether the somewhat unknown company could deliver a decent handset.

There now looks to be a pretty unique selling point for the handset, according to a recent article on SlashGear it seems that the handset will be the first in the US to offer two-way video calling.

Two-way video calling is not a new thing for some countries, however it is in the US, it seems that Verizon will be looking to cash in on this by offering the VPhone, the handset is said to be able to deliver video calls at up-to 30fps on EDGE 2.5 networks.

To find out more about video calling and the VPhone’s specifications check out SlashGear.

The VPhone is expected to be released through the Verizon ODI program soon. It has passed the most difficult of the Verizon ODI tests, but still requires some additional testing. The Saygus cellular video calling technology performs low bandwidth video calling down to the EDGE 2.5 networks, essentially allowing for worldwide video calling rather than the network capabilites available today that seem to be at about the ten percent mark. Saygus has no plans currently to offer the VPhone through AT&T.
