Nokia N900: Release delayed yet again
Filed under: Cell Phone Information, Cell Phones

Dare we say it, but this is getting a bit crazy now. We have just been informed that Nokia has once again delayed the release of the upcoming Nokia N900 smartphone, previously expected on the 16th November.
We do not have an exact date, but we have been told by Mobile Phones Direct, who operate Nokia Retail, that the release has now been pushed back until the end of this month.
They also ensured us that all customers who have the phone on pre-order, will receive their phone as soon as Nokia give the green light, so we’ll try to keep you updated on the situation if anything changes.
How do you feel about this? No doubt there are thousands who have this phone on pre-order, so we can imagine you are feeling pretty miffed about this. Leave us a comment with your thoughts below.

Whilst I am annoyed with the delay…I would much rather have a phone with the right firmware that matched perfectly and made the phone a joy to use, without requiring 2 or 3 major firmware updates within the first few months to correct major issues…(aka N97).
So whilst I’m sure people will moan and whine about, you guys really should just wait another few weeks to the something perfect..rather than something you will just moan about had you had it a week or two earlier….
Lets face it…the N900 will be out-of-date within 6-8 months anyone…so those who have ordered it on a contract might as well just wait for something perfectly working to keep them happy during the contract!
While i’m a bit ****** that it has been put back again and feel that Nokia & MPD could have been a bit more forthcomming with the information another couple of weeks wont kill me.
Never Mind
This phone should of been out months ago
They always do this, always late, always nothing completed properly.
It took them MONTHS to release kinetic scrolling for the N97, when it should of been a feature out of the box.
I have no doubt that the N900 will EVOLVE into a great product, and pave the way forward with Maemo 6 (Capacitive Screens, Multitouch, Dual Core mobile processors etc…) But I hate feeling like an Alpha/Beta tester with Nokia all the time. They have had long enough to release a product that should be a lot more developed. Maemo isn’t exactly new…
This isn’t a dig at Nokia as such, cause they are all just as bad as each other lol.
It’s just my 2 pennies, but look at Symbian, after all these years it still doesn’t feel stable enough for my liking.
So disappoint, so that’s what customer services is about uh? I’m getting really frustrated about this right now: from August to September to beginning of October to end of October to 16th November and now…? I’ve preordered mine 3 days ago, on Saturday, it better be in my hands before the next year comes, and I’m serious!
Pretty disgusted really- if Nokia Uk preorder customers get theirs around the 20th, why dont MPD? Ok, it’s only a week (AGAIN), but since my N95 is refusing to work and has done since I preordered in early October, then it’s not ideal at all. So let’s hope I get it for my birthday on 30th.
Well, my N97 is giving me grief and that’s the main reason why I chose to preorder the N900 (other than me being a phones freak! :p) but this is way too much…wait a minute: I know that some retailers have THEIR OWN delivery/availability dates, could it be that Nokia will stick to the 19th? (and by the way, if you were wondering, the release date for Nokia N900 being shifted from 16/11 to 19/11 is simply rumours on the Internet…). So could it be that the end of november applies to some retailers but NOT Nokia Online? *crosses fingers*
This article is pretty misleading.
As the N900 has already “shipped” I do not think this is “another” delay from Nokia. I believe it is merely taking longer to reach retailers than they expected so they changed their ETA date accordingly.
The “end of November” is merely what the Nokia Retail website is now claiming, and possibly only refers to new orders. MPD are still quoting on the phone as “hopefully this week” which is more or less what they have been saying since the delay, week commencing 16th Nov, which basically means if it ships any time this week then there has been only ONE delay.
This was looking increasing likely – none of the UK network websites even list it currently, Amazon.co.uk has no link and play.com have been saying 30th Nov release for a few days at least. On TV last night I even saw a Nokia advert for an N97 Mini rather than the N900.
It doesn\’t really feel like there will be actual (walk into a shop and buy one) availability this side of Christmas.
Nokia appear to have based their release strategy on the same highly successful model employed by Palm with the Pre:
(1) Announce a cutting edge hardware/software combo.
(2) Claim imminent release.
(3) Push back a few weeks.
(4) Got to (2) until competitors have cutting edge hardware/software combo (really) available.
(5) Release an out of date hardware/software combo.
Marketing – Bill Hicks was right!
Hm, good point. After all, w/c 16/11 means any day from yesterday to Friday… I bet they’re going to struggle now that thousands and thousands more people are preordering this device. I hope they’ll learn to implement, thoroughly test and retest the device BEFORE giving the public false hopes!
This is true expansys have changed my expected date to end of November. Bad news !!!!
