Windows 7 Upgrade: Which to choose?

Windows 7 Upgrade: Which to choose?

By: Peter Chubb | November 16, 2009 | Leave a Comment

The time has finally come where you can ditch your annoying and poor performing Windows Vista for something a little more reliable. Microsoft recently launched Windows 7, which comes with two discs, 32-bit and 64-bit. This has led to confusion, as users are not sure what to choose.

Southbendtribune.com explains that if you only have a 32-bit processor, then you should just install the 32-bit version of Windows 7. However, if you have a 64-bit processor, then you should install the 64-bit version of the OS. It is great to run the 64-bit version as it is much faster, making running multiple programs a dream.

There is a downside to this version though; some of your software and other gadgets such as your printer might not have a driver to support the 64-bit version. You should run Microsoft’s free Upgrade Advisor first.

I knew that my laptop was able to support 64-bit but for some reason I chose to install the 32-bit version. I found that Windows 7 32-bit could only use 3GB of my 4GB of RAM. I will give it a few days and format my laptop again, I have 4GB and I want to be able to use 4GB.

Let us know what version you are running and if you have had any problems.
