Magnavox NB500MG1F for $78.00: Walmart Black Friday

By: Peter Chubb | November 16, 2009 | 5 Comments

We mentioned in a recent post that Walmart’s Black Friday Ad had been leaked onto the Internet. This is a big deal as people will now try their hardest to get information on some of the products that will be on sale, such as the Magnavox NB500MG1F Bonus View Blu-ray player for just $78.00.

This is a huge saving, but this is not the first time that Walmart have offered such a huge discount on a Blu-ray player. Last year the retail giant offered a Magnavox Blu-ray player for $128, much the same as the one on offer for 2009. This latest offer is a massive $50 cheaper than the previous deal.

According to Blu-ray.com, stocks will be limited so you had better make sure that you show up at your local store early. It is a good idea to run a check by zip code to make certain that your Wal-Mart have the Magnavox NB500MG1F in stock.

Wal-Mart are not happy that their Black Friday 2009 Ad has been leaked on the Internet, which is why their lawyers asked DVD Talk to take down the scans of their ads.

We are not certain if the ad is genuine or not, we will just have to wait to see what happens from now. If last year is anything to go by, then Wal-Mart will release their ad on the week running up to Black Friday.

I checked out the wal mart web site and to my suprise the Magnavox Blue Ray was available Friday for $78.00. So I bought 2. Considering most stores probably only had 4 I thought this was a good deal. Now I would like to see some reviews on the magnavox Blue Ray disk player model NB500MG1F.

    In response to Jacqueline:

The Wal-Mart in Mesa, AZ had literally pallets of these on Black Friday. And they’re still available on walmart.com for $78, the same price they were on Black Friday.

Why did you think they were so scarce you needed to pick up 2?

For $87 you get what you pay for. I am returning this POS and sticking with DVD for a few more years. First, 20% of the BR disks fail to play. I am told to update the firmware.

    WOA

My DVD did not require any firmware updates ! ! !
DVDs cost 50% less to purchase! ! !

So tell me whats so great about Blue Ray? OH yea the consumer once again is bilked out of $$$ for technology sake. SONY stuck it to everyone.

ive had this product for 2 months now and it does have a few bugs but for $78 what do you expect. It does look/sound better then a regular dvd player because of the hdmi cable alone if you don't have much money and still want to be apart of the HD experience this is def the way to go. Filmware is hard to find but every movie including the new ones has worked for me. It's a little slow with about a 1-1.1/2 min lode time and is a little slow on the remote response time but i wouldn't take it back and even if it lasts only 2 years its still worth it coming from a poor guy.

I, purchased this Blu-ray player on black friday and played it right away and the pictures looks amazing, and sounds great to, yes the load time can be slow at times when loading certain blu-ray movies but every single blu-ray player has slow loading times, blu-ray players are very similar to a computer thats why they take so long to load, about the same time as Playstation game systems and X-box's so that it typical, only problems i've had is sometimes the movie will freeze for a moment when switiching layers but thats very rare, It out performs my More expensive blu-ray player I purchased first, I've yet to need a firmware update for this player, I use this player on a "46 Song Bravia 120 mhz tv and I get a beautiful picture with no ghosting, blurring, or uneven coloring, so out of 5 stars I would give this player a solid 4, so if your thinking of purchasing this player I would recommend it, also make sure you use an hdmi Cable and select Auto don't pick 480p, selecting auto gives you the full 1080p picture resolution on your blu-ray movies played back on your 1080p hdtv.
