The iPhone wars: AT&T vs. Verizon

The iPhone wars: AT&T vs. Verizon

By: Peter Chubb | November 14, 2009 | 2 Comments

AT&T have filed a second lawsuit against Verizon Wireless, claiming “irreparable harm,” they have asked a District Court Judge to force Verizon to pull its latest TV ad. The ad in question is where Verizon have placed the iPhone on the “island of misfit toys,” something that has not gone down well with the network carrier.

The main issue with the ad is to do with the AT&T’s network coverage, Verizon makes some claims that AT&T say are in fact false. According to Fortune Brainstorm Tech, AT&T have decided to put the record straight and let their customers know that it is only them and not Verizon who offer the most popular smartphone, the iPhone.

AT&T went on to ad that Verizon do not offer a handset with access to more than 100,000 applications. AT&T also showed a new map, one that they feel Verizon should show instead of the misleading one. So why is AT&T taking things so badly, we aim to explain it as simple as possible below.

The map that Verizon came up with showed that AT&T coverage had a huge amount of white space, this could be misleading as customers would think that AT&T did not have any coverage in that area, this is untrue.

Although AT&T may not have any 3G coverage in that area, customers would still have access to the 2G networks, allowing customers to still gain access to the Internet. For more details on this, visit Fortune Brainstorm Tech.

The problem with the Verizon map that is shows both 3G and EVDO coverage (EVDO is slightly faster than EDGE and significantly slower than 3G), while the AT&T map shows only The 3G coverage and does not include AT&T’s 2.5G Edge network. Overall AT&T has better coverage and better technology. AT&T is the only network (apart from T-Mobile USA) that has the technology to do things simultaneously unlike Verizon’s feeble network. I’m a Vodafone customer (Vodafone own 45% V wireless), and i aware they pushed Verizon to move to the more technologically superior UTMS 3G, (initially unsuccessfully)that is used in Europe.

Wow someone sounds like they have lot's of stock in AT&T lol. People obviously don't get the ad and are looking at the map colors than the 3G. Verizon has more 3G coverage and that's all that was said. If you look at the map on AT&T's site and zoom in on the region 3G hmmmmm looks like the same map that Verizon shows on the commercial. Misleading yes to any idiot that doesn't know the meaning of 3G. Some make me laugh by saying 3Gigs haha. Edge is horrible and slow, might as well be 1DU (Dial UP). Verizon needs to get the IPhone and I'm sure it will be a monopoly or some type of world record for the most port-ins in a month, maybe a week to Verizon from any carrier. I have stock with Verizon and I also sale Verizon so looks like I double dip in profits.
