Modern Warfare 2: Should Activision axe Demonware?

As most of you will be aware by now, the online multiplayer of the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2 has been crippled after it was confirmed that servers were completely down as a result of a networking failure by Demonware.

Who are Demonware you ask? Demonware is a Irish-based networking company who were purchased by Activision in 2007. As most of you know, the multiplayer on PS3 is handled by third-party companies and Demonware are in charge of servers for Modern Warfare 2.

Now a lot of you are placing the blame on Infinity Ward, stating that they should have been prepared for this possible outcome, but then again, they would of had no idea that Demonware’s servers would go completely bust one day after launch.

IW’s Robert Bowling has indicated that the solution to the problem now firmly lies with Demonware and their attempts to get the servers back up and running for PS3 users, but is it too late?

Should Activision drop Demonware and search for a more reliable server provider? Give us your thoughts on this below.

Activision should look for a more reliable networking company but I’m sure Deamonware didn’t expect their servers to crash the day after launch either. The problem is 100,000 people all trying to play at once straight away and the system isn’t ready to take it yet. Every game has glitches when they come out, its why they get updates. Look at COD5WOW with the map glitches. Okay Okay this is much worse but just stay frosty and it’ll get sorted.

    see you on-line, eventually

nah how were people to know this was going to happen, I don’t believe any other ps3 game with an online multiplayer has ever done this?

they should have left it the same as cod4 servers and the same set up, MW2 set up and the host migration is crap, way to stuff up a good game!

I live in the Middle East and when playing COD4 the connection was really bad (1 red bar) if I got a connection at all. Now with MW2 I mostly get green bars if not yellow so im much happier with this service. I don’t think anyone was prepared for how many games got sold within the first couple of days and I feel that if any other “reliable” firm took this contract they would be experiencing the same problem. Demonware have already sorted the issue out as I was playing this morning (with green bars) so I say let them stay put as countries with less bandwidth are able to enjoy MW2 lag-free.
