Project Natal Xbox 360: Release date and Price update

Project Natal Xbox 360: Release date and Price update

By: Alan Ng | November 11, 2009 | 58 Comments

To all potential buyers of the upcoming motion tech ‘Project Natal’ on the Xbox 360 listen up, as we have an update to give you now, on a expected release as well as some likely prices for the device.

As reported from Eurogamer, they have quoted information from MCV, who have stated that Project Natal will launch in November 2010. They added that Microsoft are planning to manufacture 5 million units, which will be ready on launch.

Heres the interesting part though. The report also reveals that Natal is likely to be under £50, with even £30 as a potential pricing point. That works out around $50-80, although pricing is likely to vary depending on which region you live in.

What do you think about this? Seems a very reasonable price to us, let us know your thoughts on it.

Seems too good to be true, I was expecting it to be nearer £150. Shame there’s such a long wait – a year and a half seems a very long time to milk it’s hype.

Perhaps it doesn’t work as well as M$ are making out and they need the time to make the prototype a reality.

  • Dan

    @Slippy Sloppy

Yer i don’t know were this leak came from but i think it’s BS.
MS themselves wouldn’t put a price on it a year before release & with an economy that’s sure to fluctuate.

A November launch is possible & i don’t really think one & a half years from being announced is that long considering they will want to have games ready at launch.

“Perhaps it doesn’t work as well as M$ are making out and they need the time to make the prototype a reality.”

It’s been tested in public, we know it works & considering the lesson they learnt releasing the 360 too early, the extra time to play test the hardware can only be a good thing.

There is somethings called forecasting. Microsoft have forecasted that next Novemeber they MAY be able to sell it for £50. However if their forecast is incorrect then of course it will be a different price…

  • http://www.armorgames.com wozz

tthis looks f***in bad*ss man the price is miniscule i was expecting like £200-£150 man this rocks

  • William

When this hits the shelf even if it was about $120 its still going to rock console gaming as we know it!! Great job Microsoft!

  • Rizwan

I think it is great that it’s coming next year. that way as then any bugs will be resolved and there will probably be loads of games on release. The price is excellent. MS will go down in history for being the console developers of the people. £30 is well good value and everyone can afford it, it is probably that price because it is an accessory not a console, so the system is already there. they have just developed a new remote kind of thing.

  • cwest187

The reason it is so cheap is probably because they want people to buy this “accessory”. Let’s wait and see how much the compatible games for it end up being, that’s where our pockets will take the big hit.

  • http://sdada faris

i hope that you are right because i want the natal so badly.but i dont think that its gona be that price because microsoft sells the 512 mb card for just 40 dollars..so there is a 90% that that is not th real price

  • Michael

To be honest, I’m not sure that price is fully truthful. I mean do you mean just the sensor is $80.00. Does it come with games? are the games for natal going to be more expensive then a regular xbox360 game? I mean I can continue with the pros and cons, but if you look at it in reality. Something so sophisticated as project natal cannot be around that price. Microsoft definitely has not released the price yet, or even contemplated on a price, and if it is anywhere close to $80.00 Obviously you need special games for it, such as the Milo presentation, etc etc.. we have all seen the E3 Demo. So in retrospect it isn’t going to be cheap because I am sure you will obviously need special games to play it with, which are going to cost an arm and a leg.

  • zee

no it wont cost £50 are you mad? do your research properly. New xbox games cost about £45 and you expect project natal which is something new and extra ordinary to be just £5 more? haha you make me laugh. The project natal is expected to be priced at £150 – £200.

  • Xboxer

I think that releasing it then would be great as long as they can fix the Xbox to work properly instead of so many major defects. Let Microsoft concentrate on making Project Natal maintain instead of crash like so many Xbox machines have done. I cant wait, my kids are gonna love it!!!!!

  • Sid

do u have to have a x box to play the project natal?

  • 360pro

@ Slippy I dont think the price is too far off the mark. Consider Sony taking a $300-400 loss on the ps3. This is not some 3rd party’s project so i think that Microsoft may commit to a small loss now for a big gain in the future. A $50-100 price tag will ensure the unit gets into alot of homes and the november launch makes perfect sense. A cool new piece of hardware for a low cost around the holidays means big sales. Im a customer solutions manager at Best Buy and I first heard about this possibile price from my store’s general manager who got his info from corporate. So dont make the call yet, this could all be a reality.

  • Mark

I think Microsoft hyping it this early will probably be an early fall 2010 release and not November 2010. Also I see mager bugs already in the unit, just look at the video especially the godzilla monster thing. Come on why play a game with a monster staring you in the face. Also I don’t see it working at all for Halo 3 or MW2. If you turn around to get the kill then you will be blind to make a shot. Driving and flight sims will be the games that sell it as well a multimedia like Zune and Netflix. I love flight Sims and driving and the cost of these controllers are to high. Virtual Reality Displays never made the system even though the technology is super cheap and perfected now. So I suggest not to get to hyped up on this thing. Granted this is a very cool device that would be a nice add-on experience but $50-$80 is being realistic for it won’t be able to support the real hardcore gamers out there.

  • Ben

Maybe they would it to be ‘easy to get hold of’, so putting at a low price isn’t too much to pay?

  • Madison

    Of Course.

  • dave

i agree i think that if games these days cost $70 new then project natale will at least be $100 to $200

ps. im canadian wooooooo!!!! canada rocks!!!!

  • john

Are there gonna be special games to play with it or you could use the normal ones?

  • OLimac

reasonable!??! are you kidding me!?!? its MORE THAN REASONABLE!!! ITS AMAZING!! WITH THAT PRICE EVERYONE IS GOING TO OWN A PROJECT NATAL…EVERYONE!!!!

  • Ron

If this really works out it will be amazing. I can feel it sensors not working as well as Microsoft shows because those are mostly staged showings. Im just really cautious about buying it because I don’t know how well it will work. When it comes out in a long time.

  • Morison

I hope they really add in better processors and gpu’s so the 360 can easily beat out ps3. Not just that they should also fix the damn red rings it still exist.. the new jasper doesnt really do much

  • Morison

whats wrong with everyone going to own a natal? that way the population for 360 gamers, supports would be more and more games for 360 :)

  • bobj420

you idiot,:The Project Natal for XBox 360: duhhhh

  • Abdul

i think i am v pleased abwt yurr new project but wht cn i sy is tht is it is good if yu sel tht projet to me for £1.00

okiii nw i sy i go to skool evry daiii smoking nuffn till i go to my bed

    byebye

  • Alec

The reason it’s so cheap is because they are removing the CPU in the device itself that handles the ” bones ”
calculations, and giving that work to the XBOX CPU instead.

This will limit the quality and who knows what else about the Natal games! It will consume about 15%, but can run up to 33%.

I’d rather pay more and get the original unit with it’s own CPU!

  • sandeep

I dont know abt u guys but did you think abt the application of this same tech in any other fields when i was thinking abt it i felt that its practical uses are infinite other than gaming.

  • hudstar

Can you use an old xbox

  • ELJ

This Is brilliant because i live in wales U.K and I don't have a lot of £££££ on me

  • Dominic Meola

Wthat the fuck! I mean only 80 bucks thats CHEAP do u got to have a xbox already

  • Abdul

That is very cheap… but good for all customers. I expecteded it to be atleast £100.00 but 30 -50 will do. LOL!!! It is sick though, respect to microsoft. LOLER!!!

  • http://twitter.com/kikikong98 @kikikong98

will it have less sensory if it is cheaper and must you have to download it into your memory harddrive cuz it loooks awesome and im totally buying it when it first comes out

  • Mary Beth

It's supposed to be for Xbox(ANY KIND!) and Nintendo Wii

  • http://???????.com PS3 ROX

Hey i have ps3 will this be for it too?
    email me!!! cupcakescankill10@gmail.com

  • Maxwell

THIS IS AWESOME! I think It Will Make Gaming Fun! The Price is Good, Not Bad But This Is going To be A Cool Thing. I'm Just Giving My Opiniun.

It is cool! We can program it to do what ever we want and more!

I just can not wait tell' this happeneds!

  • gamerguy

What I don't think you are realizing is, they will make a lot more profit from games that are Designed for this. If they set a set price for the unit, and a fairly low one, more people would be inclined to buy it. And once they had it, they would be even more inclined to buy games for it. I don't know about everyone else, but my console of choice is the ps3, I bought it for roughly $800, once I already had the PS3 I figured $50-$60 a game wasn't bad at all. I now have 18 games, adding up to close to $1000 worth of games, the system itself can now be bought for something like $300. When I bought the games I didn't think anything of it, but now look, I've spent more on games than I have the actual system, and I didn't even realize it because it was spread out over a number of months.

  • Kevin

It's not for Wii. I don't think It would work with the first Xbox.

  • Natepupp

I don't think so. As i have been reading its only for x-box 360 as it is a microsoft creation, However i belive sony eventually will try and copy/create there own version of this technology for the PS3

  • Jhockey9

this is going to be great it might cost a little more but the games and features will be worth it

  • moii

shut up you dushbag say the price u thought and they would raise the stakes

  • artis

I'm not sure about this. i mean the whole controlling for games like GTA, COD etc. (action and shooters). ok you can shoot whats in front of you, but what about turning? walking forwards and backwards? im not going stand infront of my tv and raise my feets up and down like a an idiot. its a bit retarted. unless they release anyking of remote with it, then its not worth it. if you arent anykind of serious player then i wouldnt disagree. for me, it's not going to be very good. its for families(from what i have learned)

the price? probally because it's only the controller. the thing that detects your motion. like an ordonary remote. only way cooler.

  • jeff

I don't believe it……I was expecting $200-300……if its true that is really nice……just doesn't sound like a price for something that is the only type of technology of its kind for any game system. Come on has anything microsoft ever put out been cheap?

  • max

well i say that if that would be the price they're gonna rock i mean i saw those videos and it seems to be awesome but we would have to see the true when they would have it done.

  • lukin

yeah but if they come out with a game like cod for it it wont matter every guy in the world with an xbox will buy that it will be on the shelf for maybe a day before there sold out

  • Robert

It really might be around 80 dollars considering Playstation already stated that the "Move" will be about 100…I think Microsoft is goinna be smart and try to drive more sales by keeping the price low!

  • Chris

they got rid of the cpu cause of all the hardware acceleration support coming out for microsoft / direct x support the sensor/natal is going to make the the xbox support hardware acceleration so it will not actually use any cpu usage just minor most of it will com from the gpu if you wanna see how effective this actually is download the beta version of xbmc and see how well it plays 1080p on a crappy computer the cpu usage will blow your mind

  • Cameron

That price is amazing i hope it stays that way

  • Matt

Natal is an add on for the 360, not a whole new console. If your buying a 512mb card for $40US your getting your ass ripped.

  • Matt

It's an add on for the 360, not a whole new console.

  • Matt

only certain games, i think so far it's fighting, dancing, racing, some sports (skating, football, golf) I THINK!!

  • Matt

Why not, their probably using market oriented pricing strategy. Setting the price at a reasonable price and they'll slowly raise the price after seeing how they sell at first.
    i.e.
First 2 months of release they sell 800,000 Copies for 50 pounds
Price gets raised to 55 pounds
Sell 1 million copies for 55 pounds
Price gets raised to 60 pounds
    etc…

  • Brandon

The price is probably that low because think. 60 dollars times the 5 million that are coming out. Thats 300,000,000 dollars. Three hundred million dollars in one day. Yeah.. Thats profit.

  • Jake

    That is actually very low

  • zach

all i hope is that call of duty is going to be compatible to the natal accesory.

  • zach

all i hope is that call of duty is going to be compatible to the natal accesory.

  • Dane

hmm, good bye to every1s social life. XD

  • bob

    its only for xbox360 retard

  • chris

    well thats a dumb question…O_o

  • Ash

WTF OMG!! WHY DO ZTHEY SELL IT HERE £264.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
