Maclaren Pushchair Recall: Should recalls happen in the UK?
By: Peter Chubb | November 11, 2009 | 3 CommentsA mother from the UK has been telling the Sun Newspaper about how a Maclaren Pushchair sliced off her son’s finger tip, the buggy in question is now part of a huge recall in the U.S. The mother said that she was just getting ready to take her son to a party when his finger got caught in the hinge mechanism.
Sarah Dutton has since learned that Maclaren will not be issuing a recall of these buggies in the UK. We reported in a recent article that twelve kids in the U.S. have lost part of their finger due to this fault in the folding mechanism.
Thankfully, doctors have managed to reattach little Daniel’s finger, the Sun says that it is still early days and doctors now wait to see if the operation has been a success. The Sun has since contacted Maclaren, asking them to rethink their decision about not recalling these buggies.
Daniel was not the only case in the UK, Lara Bond’s daughter Jemima also had part of her finger sliced off when the pushchair was being folded up.
Maclaren USA, along with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission have told parent to stop using the affected strollers until they receive a special cover that can be placed over the hinge mechanism.
