iPhone Verizon: What we know today?

iPhone Verizon: What we know today?

By: Peter Chubb | November 11, 2009 | 8 Comments

A lot has been written about a Verizon iPhone, but are we any closer to knowing if and when it will happen. We have certainly covered a number of articles on this popular subject, and we have many of our readers asking us what we know today.

On October 26, we wrote an article which stated that the Verizon iPhone was coming as AT&T implied that its exclusivity deal with Apple was to end. The CEO of AT&T said that although the iPhone is a good source of income, it is not their only smartphone in its portfolio.

The following day we learned of a new Verizon ad slating the 3G coverage of AT&T. This news was taken two ways, the first was just another dig at the rival network. Others assumed that Verizon had finally given up on the idea of the iPhone coming to them.

On the same day Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg still maintained that they were still interested in the iPhone, but the decision was still down to Apple. We know that Verizon is not too worried about having the iPhone now, thanks to the release of the Motorola Droid, with other Android powered handsets on the way soon.

On October 29, we reported that a Wall Street analyst said that if Apple did allow Verizon to offer the iPhone to its customers, then Apple would only receive $300 per handset, compared to the $450 that they currently get from AT&T.

One of the latest pieces of news that we have on the Verizon iPhone is that Apple are rumored to be launching a 4th-generation iPhone device in April and that Verizon could be the carrier to offer it. We still do not know for certain if Verizon will be getting the Apple iPhone, we wonder if people are beginning to lose interest in the idea.

What is it that Verizon doesn’t understand about their customers wanting an iPhone?… Verizon is the only carrier that I can use. No other service within 60 miles. I have a Blackberry World Phone now. I want an iPhone.. Its that simple… Haven’t had my hands on a Droid, but from what I have read, it isn’t an iPhone… I have tried all the other “smart phones” that Verizon has to offer, and they’re all …um….unsatisfactory (trying to keep this clean).

My main reservation is that if Verizon does carry an iPhone, they will insist on making it “their” phone and insist on using V Cast, etc. instead of the current interface. That of course will kill sales, and then they can congratulate themselves on not carrying the iPhone in the first place. They seem to have a talent of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory…

Not that I’m a fan of AT&T, but maybe they’ll put up a tower near me, and I can get my iPhone with them..

Listen, enough of the “will they, won’t they” already.
Like alot of verizon customers, my patience is running low.
I want a smart phone but don’t want to buy a droid then have iphone release two months later. AT&T doesn’t have proper coverage, so that’s not an option. How about some clear cut answers…

I definatley hope it works out for Verizon to get a iphone, I want one so bad ,but I’m not willing to switch over to At&T. Most of my friends with AT&T have a lot of problems with their phones like no service and just techincal problems with texting as well. If verizon gets an iphone, there’s no doubt they will sell faster than AT&T iphones.

I’d rather spend $600 on a iphone for verizon than a stupid ipad. Lol

Verizon is a great company with excellent new phones, however to keep it simple i enjoy the iphone much better. It's user friendly and thats what I like. I've been a verizon customer for a long time and I will keep my loyalty with this great company because the service cannot be expendable. In my opinion its that good. VERIZON do what you have to do to get this iphone 4g in your path because that what your customers really want.
    Thank You.
