Best Buy Is Changing: Music and movie downloads

By: Peter Chubb | November 11, 2009 | Leave a Comment

I am not the only one who has stopped purchasing CDs or DVDs from stores such as Best Buy, many of us are now choosing to download their movies and music in digital format. There are two advantages to this, you do not have to queue up in line and you do not have a huge collection taking up valuable space in your home.

LA Times have been talking about Brandy Moore and how she loves the idea of downloading movies and music, but does not have a clue how she can watch them on her TV. Moore is not alone, but will have to work it out soon as Best Buy have announced that they will begin to cut back on the amount of DVDs and CDs that they stock in favor of pushing their dgital media instead.

Best Buy, along with Wal-Mart have all announced a drop in sales of DVDs and CDs over the same period last year, and there are no signs that this will improve. Best Buy know that the digital format is its future and are now going to begin a big push in that part of their business.

LA Times acknowledges that this is a strange decision for Best Buy to make, seeing as the last 43 years have seen them make a business from selling a physical product from their stores. CDs and DVDs have made up a huge part of their business, so Best Buy aims to make the digital format of music and movies just as big.

Brian Dunn, Best Buy’s new chief executive has said that the future of the company depends on them making certain that they are at the hub of consumer’s home entertainment. For more on this story, visit LA Times.
