Are Modern Warfare 2 PS3 Servers Down? Online Status Hangs

this is a problem….the second day and this is here? I cant fathom what type of patch they need to figure out but it seems like they dont know what to do at this point…it been too long and these experts dont take long to create a patch

lmfao. My little brother (10) was crying because he couldn’t get this game to work. he was trying for two hours.

thank god its not just me! im itching for a play though and with the single player being completed and dispensed with in under 5 hours and the covert ops not worth the time alone i got nothing to do!

wow me and my friend played the spec ops thing together with the servers being messed up and it was pretty funny acually, i would see him die all the time but he would say he is alive and when i died i would be kicking ass on his screen, and then i ran up to revive him and he knifed me and i died and he said he saw an enemy running up to him, everyone should try it while they have the chance with the servers down

this is crap come home from work and cant play c.o.d modern warfare 2 online its just been 1 day since the release of this game this better not be a regular occurance

I can connect to the matchmaking server, but the server will not fetch playlists or update my ranks and unlocks. Yesterday none of my friends could connect to each other. This is ridiculous for the bizillions of dollars that IW has made on this game already. It has been 2 days. This is pathetic.

11/11/09 – Very disappointing! Raced home from work to have a quick go before the misses gets home and met with – connecting to Matchmaking Server. After a while another screen comes up with Fetching Playlists, Updating Rank and Unlocks, Connecting to Matchmaking server complete and then the screen goes blank to be replaced by…..Your sign in status has changed, returning to the main menu!

Hope they get this problem sorted soon!

With this game in the making for over 2 years, and most likely finished a month or two ago I find this extremely unexcusable. IW got our money, and now we have to wait until Friday to play online? How about I pay THEM on Friday, they wouldn’t like that. And for those people saying that is not a big deal, SCREW YOU, we paid for a completed game, not one with bugs and glitches. IW knew there would be hundreds and thousands of purchases on Tuesday. They should have been ready. And they will be ready for more of our money with a bunch of new map packs with only one or two good ones out of four.

The millions of pounds revnue the company are getting they should make sure all this is done before its realeased its a piss take 1 day after its been released are they having a laugh they said it wouldnt happen on this game but what do you know, the game is amazing but its obviously not finished!!

guys, i can go online now, all i did was i reseted network settings and it worked, i am online but there isn’t alot of people online. There is also a message when you go back online saying sorry for the inconvienience and you recieve 4000 xp. i dont no if you have to reset ur network settings or not but it worked for me. try it out and message back.

Hahaha well I’ll keep my ps3 and now pay monthly for online play and get better games with better gfx, the ability to go on the internet through it and watch blue ray on it (which is better than HDDVD). Not to mention ps3 has a kick ass store with loads of stuff to download like games and stuff to customise my UI.

Not IW’s fault? What planet are you on? Of course it’s IW’s fault – they were the ones carping on about how its going to be the biggest game ever based on pre-orders and hype. They KNEW it was going to be massively popular and yet now they say they don’t have enough server capacity or bandwidth. This is either p1ss poor planning or just not caring about how downtime would affect the online community, but probably both. Still it happened with COD4MW, so I’m not surprised, still angry, but not surprised.

It has nothing to do with patch \”1.02\”. That was to fix the issues with trophies and with not being able to connect to your friends list. There is no word on the situation with the servers though. The only thing that has been said is there is more than three million people trying to play all at once. They obviously did not expect that many. They are currently adding more servers. Note: This goes out to the 360 fanboys… grow up. Just because you have no job and couldn\’t afford a PS3, and all your mommy and daddy would buy you is a 360, that is no reason to put down what you want and can\’t have. Find something else to do with your time.

I know this is so annoying. Game has been out for a day and already server is down. I have also complete campaign and I am wanting to play TDM.

Totally sucks.IW need to sort this out ASAP!!!! Lots of cash paid for basically bugger all. Story mode done, and spec ops not great on your own, we need online now!!!!!

I got the game today hoping to play with my friend. NOPE. Bloody servers are offline.

I barely called Sony and they said the game will be back on at 11pm est.

What I don’t get, is why can’t I connect, but I look on my friends list and it says that some of my other friends are connected and playing? What the hell is up with that?

The servers went down for me at around 5:55am PACIFIC TIME(california). I was playing and the game ended and it said couldn’t find a host. then when i tried to find a game, it couldn’t find one. So i restarted everything and It could connect but it woun’t download my trophies or ranks. I woke up at 5 to play and i had to go back to sleep after one hour . anyways hope this gets fixxed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine had been acting up all day too but I figured out that if turn off my PS3, take out the game, and blow on the disc and try again I can get it to work for a while. I can get it to work for like 20 minutes or so at a time like this. At least we have a temporary fix

You know when Infinity ward are in trouble, because one of my psn friends has resorted to playing World at war! They chose Treyarch over IW :O They better sort this out quick!
Oh and for the record those who have noticed the inability to create parties IW are realesing a patch on friday to enable this, whcih i feel is poor, due to them having such an anticipated game, but then they miss out on major aspects of the game.
IW have also posted on thier website saying that PS£ servers are coming back on however some players may still have some issues, that atm is me and everyone on my friends list :S

You need to get your facts straight as well, given that it’s Demonware that hostst the servers for MW2, not IW. though I do agree that PS3 kicks xbox to hell and back

go to the setting icon and down to network setting and go through the network cofiguration again. (like you did when the connection was first set up) and resetting your router/modem wouldn’t hurt either, I’ve had to do that a few times for this game

boy am i glad my mommy and daddy bought me an xbox live subscription so that i could spend all day playing the MW2 multiplayer instead of blogging about how much better my console is than someone elses. i guess its true, you get what you pay for, $7.99 a month to be able to play the games i want to play seems fair to me. well gotta get back to the action on my xbox 360, all you ps3 guys enjoy a bluray movie while you wait.

I think this might be due to overwhelming bandwidth on the networks. I read somewhere that Sony is increasing the PSN bandwidth to accommodate for the influx.

What you have to do to join a friends session:

Hit the PS button.

Go over to Account Management under the PSN.

Hit triangle and sign out.

Wait until you know your friends game has already started.

Sign back in.

Go to your friends name, hit triangle, hit join session.

(this is done to refresh what game your friend is in, so your not trying to join a game that your friend is no longer playing, and no longer exists)

i need some help i have this game for ps3 but every time i try to go online it jus says waiting for matchmaking server, and i downloaded the latest update 1.04.. I am not sure if it is my internet settings becasue i tried by a friend and it worked PLEASE HELP ME..

no kyle, alot of people have been having this problem. It is unfortunately a PS# only problem. Currently there is update 1.06 but it only worsened things. I have been trying to play online an cant either. I would recommend you report the problem to infinity ward aswell as play either special ops or another game.

hi i got a ps3 60gb and was able to play time shift demo online last night still able to browse the internet via the ps3 but cannot connect to the psn ….whats surprising how some people have had this happen last week as mine started last night….

try this……go to multiplayer in cod mw2, select private match. run around and shoot stuff for few min. then back out and find a match online(death match). should work but it is a pain
