Nvidia Fermi GT300 GPU Delayed Again: April 2010

By: Peter Chubb | November 10, 2009 | 1 Comment

Nvidia recently announced that they have delayed the launch of the Fermi GT300 GPU yet again; they state that we will not see the GPU until the first quarter of 2010, this could be from January to April, many would bet on April.

Engadget who learned of this news from DigiTimes states that this delay is unlikely to affect Nvidia’s performance, but will not come as good news to those who matter the most, the consumer. We have been waiting for what seems like a lifetime to get our hands on this new GPU, but as it gets closer it then gets taken away again.

Nvidia will make the Fermi GPU available to three products lines, GeForce, Quadro and Tesla. These will be released in the Q1 of 2011 fiscal. According to DigiTimes Nvidia will be able to ship its Fermi-based GPUs in 2010, as this will be part of its 2011 fiscal.

If Nvidia decide to delay the launch of Fermi GT300 GPU any longer, then this will then start to affect the company’s profits. The reason behind this is simple, as AMD is also expected to launch its entry-level Radeon HD 5600/5300 GPU in the first quarter of 2010.

Can’t blame Nvidia since TMSC has problem yielding. I think Nvidia wants to make a good product instead of focusing on short term profits.

Radeon will have the same problem in availability since they make them at TMSC. Launch or not, there will not be physical stock around.
