Modern Warfare 2: Biggest Ever Entertainment Product Launch

The hype for the recently released Modern Warfare 2 has been absolutely huge, I have previously stated that I think this is the most highly anticipated game launch ever, now facts back up my statements.
According to a recent article on T3 the game will soon become the highest grossing entertainment product ever launched, it is thought that the game will have easily grossed half-a-billion dollars within 24 hours of its launch.
The closest game launch we have seen compared to this is last years Grand Theft Auto IV release, however sales of Modern Warfare 2 are said to been at least double of what GTAIV reached in its first 24 hours.
The thing that surprised me the most is that this launch has even outdone all previous movie and music releases too.
Prior to this what game releases do you think have been anywhere near as highly anticipated as this?

I’d say Halo 3 for a console specific game, mega hype, adverts you name it Halo 3 had it.
