AT&T Vs Verizon: AT&T hit back over iPhone data coverage
Filed under: Cell Phone Information, Cell Phones

Well we knew it was only a matter of time until AT&T hit back against Verizon over their Data coverage war and here it is. AT&T have published new stats highlighting the fact that Verizon exaggerated the exact coverage that AT&T offer in their recent Ads.
Over at Apple Insider, you’ll be able to see a new graph which portrays AT&T’s real data coverage in the U.S. It turns out that Verizon only listed AT&T’s newer 3.2MB 3G network against their 1.4MB 3G EVDO service, forgetting to include AT&T’s functional EDGE service and free WiFi access points.
When you put that into perpective, it does make Verizons new ‘5x more coverage ads’ a little dodgy, leading us to believe that they were not entirely speaking the truth.
No wonder AT&T felt the need to clear things up. You can read a lot more info on this topic over at Apple Insider.

Looks like you’ve also been bitten by AT&T’s ministry of misinformation. EVDO Rev A. has a max theoretical speed of 3.1M, similar to AT&T’s max. However, Verizon consistently delivers real world speeds of 800-1,900 kbps, while AT&T consistently falls south of that figure. Don’t believe me? Check out Wired.com’s 3G speed test published in July 2009.

“Verizon came in first place with an average download speed of 1,940 Kbps, as reported by 856 participants. T-Mobile’s average rate was 1,793 Kbps with 1,189 reported T-Mobile users. Third was Sprint with 1,598 Kbps, based on data from 1,570 users. In dead last was AT&T with an average of 901 Kbps…”
Don’t be another AT&T fanboy and try looking past the smoke and mirrors.
