Verizon iPhone Release Date: Third Quarter of 2010

By: Peter Chubb | November 7, 2009 | 29 Comments

It is no secret that Verizon customers are waiting out to get their hands on the Apple iPhone, but after their recent advertisements that seemed to bash the iPhone, we all thought that it would never happen. However, there is a new report that suggests that a Verizon iPhone could still be released in 2010.

According to Wired, research firm OTR Global expects to see a Verizon Wireless iPhone in the third quarter of 2010. The firm also claims that Apple are now working on a “worldmode” iPhone, this will then make it compatible to work with the Verizon carrier. This is because Verizon is a CDMA network and the iPhone is only configured to AT&T’s GSM standard.

The original report that AppleInsider received stated that the Verizon iPhone will come with a smaller screen, 2.8-inches rather than the standard 3.5-inches. This is not the first time that rumors of a smaller iPhone have surfaced, but we have to wonder how much truth there is in them.

We know that Apple’s exclusive with AT&T is all set to end in 2010, but we recently assumed that this deal would be extended. Verizon have been working on Apple since the launch of the iPhone to be able to offer the smartphone to its customers.

In other news related to this, AT&T has recently filed a lawsuit and intends to sue Verizon over those recent ads. Do you think that AT&T has case?

No case. Verizon is talking area covered where ATT is talking people covered.

  • Steven

No case. Verizon knows it has superior coverage and frankly ATT coverage is the worst I have ever seen.

    iPhone for Verizon please.

  • jann

come on! late 2010? we have been waiting nearly a year to get our verizon hands on that iphone. apple could increase their sales so much if they would give up on this at&t exclusive. no case ever

I love how everyone thinks they’re cell a phone geniuses. Dude AT&T has great coverage, it may just not be in your area, same with Verizon, some people get coverage on AT&T in their area but not Verizon. Jealousy must be a part of it too considering Verizon yes has a 3G network while AT&T has a 3.5G network and you can be on the phone and still use apps and access internet. You would need 2 phones with Verizon. And for the other person who said AT&T has the worst customer service, AT&T has the best customer service especially for smartphone users and the iphone is a smartphone too. Don’t believe me? Look it up. People call AT&T everyday saying how much verizon sucks and how they want to switch.

I finally switched from Verizon to AT&T November 2009 and I couldn’t be HAPPIER with AT&T’s coverage AND customer service. I waited because of the “blogs” that kept stating the “rumor” was that Verizon was going to get the iPhone. Plus, everyone stated the coverage was not good. The iPad announcement, in my opinion, proves that AT&T will continue to keep the iPhone and Verizon will continue to envy not having such a wonderful device. Also, I have family in the UK and a clients in Norway. I am able to buy an international text plan with AT&T. Plus, I was able to get the CallGlobal App and pay only 13 cents per minute for making international calls (CenturyLink – formally Embarq and Sprint charges me 8 cents per minute residential and 29 cents per minute business). So, the iPhone, with its Apps, BEATS Verizon. (there are other international texting and voice Apps available, I also use Skype).

I dont think you all should be discussing this. I mean there really is no point in it.. All we know is that Apple will be selling to verizon so they will get more money, really I dont see why you all care. Not being rude or anything. Its just a money product thing. Good for you if you have AT&T or Verizon. But honestly no one cares. Im sure if you were in Apples shoes you would be doing the exact same thing they are doing.. And you never know. Verizon may or may not have better things on the iphone than what AT&T has. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  • ashit

You’re either on AT&T payroll, use your phone right underneath one of their towers, drink the AT&T coolade, or have your head up your arse. 3G/3.5G/4G are marketing terms put out by the carriers. Check independent sources that look at all the NFL cities and you’ll see that Verizon is 1st/2nd and AT&T shares a cozy 3rd or 4th place in the majority of metros. AT&T has the best phones, but not the best coverage or customer service. Verizon doesn’t have the sex appeal of AT&T’s phones, but beats them in every way in coverage and smartphone customer service. Please don’t confuse the people on this site with this rubbish.

your dumb. at&t is so much better. you must live in the middle of nowhere if you think that at&t sucks

  • Dubie

buy american products and pay your bill to a american company
    Apple and AT&T

  • JDubs

    Is Verizon Wireless not American?

  • BBB

If you read the guy under jeff comment, believe it because ATT sucks. I like in VA and U can't pick up any reception. And what does 3G or 4G have to do with the reception your getting. It's just like he said marketing terms just being but out to sell. ATT has no case in my eyes because it's not there product technically it's apple.

  • jvun

AT&T needs to stop crawling up verizon's anus.. and i kno u all envy verizon so much…but hey who wouldnt???? but when the 4th gen. iphone does drop guess who's gonna have it????VERIZON not AT&T…and i bet you didn t kno apple contract is now up with AT&T as of mid 2010.. and guess who they are signin wit????? u already kno so i'm not gonna repeat myself…. toodles..

  • mark mathews

have you tryed skype on the i phone its great.. and free everywhere

  • Dani

Verizon is indeed so much better. To all those saying that it is simply an issue of area and coverage perspective, I live in the metropolitan New York area and travel around the tri-state area (New York-New Jersey-Connecticut) and I barely have service. I do not trust my iPhone to make any important phone calls — that has to say something! The amount of dropped and failed calls is unbelievable! It is because of this that I have thousands of roll-over minutes since the phone is never being used. Data service? Fantastic. I switched over a little over two years ago FROM Verizon because I wanted the iPhone. I still love the phone itself, but Verizon wins this one in terms of service.

  • Duh

I live in Los Angles and get horrible service with my iphone. Pretty sure I don't live in the middle of nowhere.

  • Dustin

Jeff, you are so fucking stupid. You took a snip-it right out of AT&T….I have an HTC Imagio and I can still talk and "surf the web" at the same time you idiot…you don't need two phones…..And by the way, people call Verizon everyday and ask to switch from AT&T cuz it sucks too! DONT BELIEVE ME????LOOK IT UP dumbass.

  • Ric

I've had AT&T and in my opinion, Verizon is the best. I'll wait for the IPhone. I'd rather have excellent customer service and coverage than deal with that company… But if you have AT&T coverage and you are happy, then good for you!

  • Shawn

No, it's not . Verizon is owned by Vodafone in Europe.

Buy apple huh? Cause its US made?? HMM

In 2006, the Mail on Sunday alleged that sweatshop conditions existed in factories in China, where the contract manufacturers, Foxconn and Inventec operate the factories that produce the iPod.[157]
The article stated that one iPod factory, for instance, had over 200,000 workers that lived and worked in the factory, with workers regularly doing more than 60 hours of labor per week. The article also reported that workers made around $100 per month were required to live on the premises and pay for rent and food from the company. Living expenses (required to keep the job) generally took up a little over half of the worker's earnings. The article also said that workers were given buckets to wash their clothes.[158][159][160]
Immediately after the allegations, Apple launched an investigation and worked with their manufacturers to ensure that conditions were acceptable to Apple.[161]
In 2007, Apple started yearly auditings of all its suppliers regarding Worker's Rights, slowly raising standards and pruning suppliers that did not comply. Yearly progress reports have been published since 2008

Att has no case, and its because att and verizon are talking about 2 different kinds of coverages.when att says that they cover 97% of americans, they're talking about voice coverage, when verizon says "there's a map for that",they're talking about 3g coverage.att just hopes that you won't notice that they"re talking about something different, that's why you never hear the phrase 3g in any of att's commercials.

Links to JD Power associates ratings on overall customer satisfaction of service providers customer service and also overall performance and quality of calls and data usage. In case nobody knows, JD POWER survey's people in the entire industry, both the service providers along with a broad population of the consumers using the services….and here's what they found out in their ratings. Verizon beats out everyone (including att, sprint/nextel, tmobile) in customer service, and also beats everyone out in call quality and coverage. ATT doesn't even beat tmobile or sprint/nextel in most areas.

Jeff is right about it depends on the area. I work for Verizon but it dropps too many calls in my area and I have trouble with it sititng in my house so I carry a different carrier. It all depends on where you are and sometimes the phone you have.

  • Jay

I don't care who's better or who's worse….I just know that I need an IPhone and I'm a happy Verizon customer minus the fact that I don't have one. The IPhone is a great device and needs to be shared on both AT&T and Verizon. Just my opinion…

  • anna

no one care about your opinion…?

  • BLICK

GOOO Verizon! jus get the IPHONE AT&T is no comparison to you.

  • stu pidiot

Yes it is and Europe has phones about 6 years ahead of what we have here in the states.
