Since the launch of the Apple iPhone back in 2007 there have been a number of smartphones claiming that they could dethrone the ultimate handsets, but none of them have been able to do so. There is a new smartphone being launched that claims to be good and it is one that could very well begin the downfall of the iPhone, which is the Verizon Wireless Google Phone, or Motorola Droid.
This is the first Motorola to come with the Google Android OS and the first Android to come to Verizon. The Droid will go on sale tomorrow in the U.S and after $100 rebate will cost $199 on a two-year Verizon service contract.
Most new smartphones have not come out directly and said that they aim to take the battle to the iPhone, but the Droid did just that. From the first TV ad, you could see that the Droid had the iPhone squarely in its sights.
The Apple iPhone will not fall, but the Motorola Droid is the first phone that could start a revolution. The iPhone only has one handset to fight its corner, Android handsets are beginning to get big in numbers and they are getting better all the time, the best being the new Droid.
The iPhone will survive this round but a number of features on the Motorola Droid certainly put the iPhone to shame. One of those features is its turn-by-turn navigation system; this certainly puts some of the paid apps on the iPhone to shame, such as TomTom and Garmin.
