Final Fantasy XIII Box Art: Are PS3 owners impressed?

Now that the lid has been lifted on the official box art cover for the Japanese version of Square-Enix’s upcoming RPG Final Fantasy XIII, we want to know your thoughts on it. Were you expecting this basic version?

Dont get me wrong, basic is good. Nothing stands out more than the iconic Final Fantasy font plastered right in the middle of the box, but we cant help feel that a little more detail would of been just a tad more exciting.

Then again, Square Enix might of been playing the careful route, in fear of a backlash from their legion of fans who will speak out on anything that doesnt suit their tastes.

If you haven’t seen it already, you can check it out here. Don’t forget that this is just the Japanese version so far, nothing has been confirmed for the US or UK yet.

To reiterate, we like it. We just think change would of been better. Let us know your thoughts on this.

    i think its great. Though shouldn’t Lightning be there too?

    It wouldn’t be a FF without this boxart… I love it. It’s a trademark from the series, and I find it classy.

    No, Lightning should not be on the cover. Its the subtlety in the art itself which makes a Final Fantasy logo great. The use of CGI characters on the front just ruins the whole feel.

    The boxart looks cool. Typical Final Fantasy. But who cares about the boxart, shouldn’t we be more interested in the actual game?

    In the UK, the boxart is ALWAYS just the logo – I’d be upset if FFXIII DIDN’T use this as the boxart!!

    I doubt that is even the final box art, they show the final fantasy text on the box for reference at first, but once it comes out it is usually different, they did the same thing with crisis core, and many other games. I guess we’ll see though.

    I agree – as long as the game is good, i couldn’t care less what the packaging looks like.

    i would rather have a hi-rez view of a place in the game and a sword close to the camera out of focus with final fantasy xiii written over it and that logo in black

    PAL regions have had this style of box art for every FF release since the original PlayStation. I think it’s classy, we don’t need full graphic covers like the US.

    This is just the Japanese box art, the America and Europe version will be different, well not sure about Europe but the America version is always different.

    And this is the same box art they used in Japan for basically every Final Fantasy game, it’s tradition, don’t fix something that’s not broken.

    It’s what I expected for the JP and EU boxart, it’s always the logo with a white background. NA art, no idea, my guess it will be a promotional picture with the logo at the top.
