The Sony PSP Go has already been on sale in the US for about a month now and sales have been strong, but it is a different story in Japan. Sales in Sony’s home country for the PSP Go were unimpressive and got off to a low-key start.
According to PC World, the new device has sold just 28,275 units on its first day; this is based on data taken from Enterbrain. Average daily sales of the normal PSP was 5,786 units up until October 24, the PSP Go’s daily sales were at five times the average.
However, as this was a new launch, numbers were expected to be much higher. The problem was no major retail stores opened up early to offer the PSP Go, and that affected first day sales in Japan badly. It is assumed that sales will pick up as we near the shopping season.
Sales of the PlayStation Portable are down from 3.2 million to 3 million in this quarter from the same period last year. Year end sales are expected to hit 15 million units.

Sales in the US have NOT been strong, even worse in Australia where only 1000 units where sold in the first month.
