HTC Droid Eris is a shape-shifted Hero
By: Peter Chubb | November 2, 2009 | Leave a CommentWe have known for a while now that the first HTC Droid handset will be called the Eris, but we did not know that it will just be a “rebadged, shape-shifted Hero.” This is according to the latest news from Engadget Mobile. The question is, will there be any hardware changes, the simple answer is no.
We mentioned in a recent post that the HTC Droid Eris will be released on Verizon on November 6, this is the same day that Verizon also launches the Motorola Droid, so should be a good battle. Only good can come out of Verizon offering two Google Android handsets on the same day, great to see that its customers will have a choice.
The Eris will come with Android 1.5 “Cupcake,” but it is hoped that an upgrade to Android 2.0 Éclair will follow once made available. The new handset or rebadged one will come with a 3.2-inch screen and Sense UI; this is to be powered by a 528MHz processor.
According to Phones Review, the HTC Droid Eris will come with a $100 mail-in rebate; the final cost will be $199. The handset will even come with an 8GB microSD card for increased storage capacity.
