Well we didn’t see this one coming so soon after the release of the Sony PSP Go. Rumors are swirling around on the web about a return for the infamous UMD format with the release of the next PSP hardware design (PSP-4000).
The news is according to Pocket-Lint, who have obtained their info from Edge Magazine, who states that there was a fair amount of talk on the PSP Go at the recent Tokyo Game Show.
Apparently, Sony is already set to combat the low sales of the PSP Go by announcing a new model of the PSP in 2010 - which will once again feature the UMD format.
Of course, these are only rumors, but it will be very surprising to see Sony back down from their ‘digital only’ stance that they were willing to put all of their effort into.
Let us know what you think of this. Would you like to see a return of the UMD, or are you happy with the PSP Go?

I’m happy with the PSP Go!, and I don’t think that they’re getting rid of the download content, I think it’s along side of the download only hardware… and honestly for those who don’t like to download everything i think it’s a genious way to do buisness… It’s stupid to say that it’s to make up for low sales.
Sony cant make up its mind to what it wants with the PSP and cant even hold on to one design for long to it bring out some thing else why dont they leave it and create a psp 2 and be done with it
I’m not gonna say i told you so but this was a long time coming. Not everyone who has a psp will have the time or the internet connection to use all the dl content on the psn, let alone to maintain a psn account and all that jazz. The UMD, although hacked 24/7 is the better choice. Its like moving all dvd releases to strictly download-able content when not every one has an internet connection.
It was a silly move to move to the psp-go not many people would by it because it is too much hassle downloading credit cards making accounts etc, now Sony know they wont make no more sales for the psp 3000 so what theyll do is release another psp with the original stuff but a few attrractive things to reel the missing customers in.
