The release of the Verizon Droid is going to be a big deal for other Android users, as this will help to propel the Android Market into something bigger than it has ever been. The Motorola Droid could be the handset that helps to increase the amount of apps available for Android handsets.
According to Mobile Entertainment News, analytics firm Flurry said that we need to prepare ourselves for an apps explosion on Android Market, this could be the start of the battle with Apple’s App Store, who offers apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Flurry has said that they have seen an increase of 94 percent in applications being developed for the Android Market; this is for the months September and October. Flury said that the main reason for this explosion is because of Google’s recent partnerships with T-Mobile and Motorola, but the most recent partnership with Verizon will have the biggest effect.
One thing is certain, the iPhone is still the most popular handset when it comes to apps, but Apple had better start watching its back as Android is coming.

IMO Verizon had better start being more non geek user friendly with there marketing. Most people are intimidated when they hear the words Developer Phone.
Know one knows what Android is except app builders and tech heads.
As for the phones them selves they will defiantly bring more users to Verizon. Especially those who do not like AT&T network. Verizon has the largest network in the USA and the highest customer satisfaction rating in consumer report magazine in 2009.
The only problem is there are apps that just can’t be done on android right now, such as real time audio stuff. No “I am T-Pain” apps for now. You can do real time audio, but there is latency issues yet.
It will be an interesting couple of months, that’s for sure.
