Sky on Xbox 360: Released today, prices seem ridiculous

With the Sky player available for Xbox 360 users in the UK today, Microsoft have detailed the pricing tariffs that they will be charging customers for channel packages. Lets just say the prices do no favors to entice customers into the new service.

As reported from Eurogamer, Xbox 360 owners will have to have a Gold membership in order to take advantage of the Sky Player, then you’ll have to pay £15 a month in order to get Sky’s basic entertainment package.

If you decide you’re feeling a bit fruity, then you have the option to pay more to receive some premium packages, such as Sky Sports, Sky Movies or ESPN.

There are also various on-demand channels and packages available for those of you who want to really enjoy the full Sky TV experience. Full prices and details can be found over at Eurogamer.

Let us know what you think of Sky TV on Xbox 360. Do you think the prices are reasonable?

I guess if you’re looking to scrap your cable or satelite bill then the price won’t seem as bad. It’s still cheaper just to get PlayOn server and have the ability to stream alot of TV through ABC, CBS, Hulu and others. I really think the 360 should look at scrapping their live fees. I have all 3 systems and I don’t care what anyone says, the difference between the xbox and PS3 online experience is negligible, with cross game chat being the most important difference in my eyes. If PS3 said they would bring cross game chat for an extra fee though, I wouldn’t pay for it.

I’m guessing you are posting from America. The services you mention are not available in UK.

The pricing isn’t too bad, considering it’s inline with what Sky charges but I think having to be a Live member is a cheeky way for M$ to squeeze more money out of people. I think the biggest disadvantage is how noisy consoles are compared to set top boxes, I certainly wouldn’t want either console buzzing away while I’m trying to watch tv.

i think its wrong 15 pound a month will get u more channels through a sky box plus they wunt more for sky sports and sky movies and there service is only free if u have sky multiroom or sky broadband every one keeps moaning bout Microsoft wat bout sky. i dont see having gold really makes much difference nearly every thing on xbox needs a gold membership i dont think it would of hurt to give a free trial just to show it off let us all decide if we feel its worth these high prices.
