The recent news that Verizon were to get their first Google Android phone showed that the network carrier were not putting all their thought into getting the Apple iPhone. Ralph de la Vega the CEO of A&T Mobility has implied that the U.S. exclusivity of the Apple iPhone is to end.
There are a number of questions to be raised here, does Apple want its smartphone on the Verizon network and do Verizon care about the iPhone now that they are getting the Motorola Droid (Specs and Features). According to ethioPlanet.com, Vega did not offer any more details on what he had said.
The AT&T CEO was asked in a number of question-and-answer session what the carrier would do if they lost its exclusivity with the iPhone, he said “The iPhone is a good source of new subscribers, but is only part of a smartphone portfolio that gives good results.”
The latest rumors have it that the deal with AT&T will end halfway through 2010 and that Verizon will be able to offer its customers the ultimate smartphone. The question is, will Verizon still want to use its Vcast to offer apps, or will Apple get its way and still allow for the apps to come via the App Store?
