If you are an owner of an original BlackBerry Storm 9530 handset on Verizon, you’ll be very interested to know that version 5.0 of the BlackBerry Storm OS is now available to download and use.

As reported from BGR, users will be prompted with the update the next time you boot up your BlackBerry Desktop Manager on either the PC or Mac. Alternatively, you can also go to this website to grab the update there as well.

In case you didnt know by now, OS v5.0 adds all sorts of new features to messaging, calendar, browser, maps and tons of other general stuff.

The update is available right now, it should keep Storm 9530 users busy, while we all wait for the release of the Storm 2. Let us know if you have anything to share on this.

I upgraded mine last night. Man is this thing FAST!!!! Have not had a chance to play with it yet. The only problem I have found thus far is I can’t find my bb messanger. It says it is installed but where is it? Reinstalled it twice but still can’t find it….

How do you know if it’s fast if you haven’t had a chance to use it? Try pushing the menu button and select “switch application” the messenger along with the other apps should be available unless the upgrade took away the option.

Reboot it and see if it comes up then, I had the same problem with my FB & MS applications…

I have downloaded the new software and what I have used and played with seems really neat. But there is one really big problem for me, once the back light fades my phone wont come back on. It has a gray light showing from the keys so I know its on but the only way I can get it back on is to take out the battery and let it reload again. This has been such a hassle!

I upgrade my storm just yesterday and trust me, you want to take the time to do this! Mine took maybe 20 minutes overall time. USB connector is required! Features are updated, clearer image, clearer camera and video, text inbox theme altered (prefer bubble theme), the view when clicking the screen opens from center of phone rather than just popping open. Theres endless changes but all around well worth the time. Not to mention faster EVERYTHING! Your touch screen is WAY more percise ; )

Wow I agree the new update definitely made it a lot faster…the touch screen is a lot faster and accurate…I love the chat bubble feature for texts…camera doesn’t take forever to take pics anymore..a lot of cool new upgrades only thing I’m having problems with is my browser..I tried checkking my email in hotmail.com and it says my browser doesn’t suoport it..it has to be wap 2.0 or higher? What’s with that? Anyone else having this problem?

My internet is now terrible. Large pages take a minute to load then immediately refresh. I can’t scroll around pages because it slings right back. I have to zoom out and then back in where I want to see. Pages with separate windows only show one window at a time. I might downgrade!

Try downloading the Opera browser for the storm… it is a much faster and more convenient browser.
