Windows 7: What Problems/Annoyances Have You Experienced So Far?

With Microsoft’s extremely popular launch of their Windows 7 Operating System yesterday chances are there will be a mixed reception for the software, therefore we thought would see how are uses experiences have been so far.

With millions of people installing/upgrading to the new OS yesterday on millions of different hardware configurations its impossible for every installation to go smoothly, however Microsoft will hope that on the whole the process goes smoothly.

In an attempt to see if there are any consistent issues with the software release we thought we would ask you how your installation went and how your experience within the OS has been so far, and whether there are any major problems/annoyances.

If you choose to comment please state what version of the OS you installed (Home/Professional/Ultimate), also state whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit and also state whether you done a complete format and install or an ‘in-place upgrade’.

    Totally annoying.
Upgrading Vista windows Home Premium 32 bit to Windows7 Professional 32bit.
Windows7 install requires rebooting several times however after the first reboot the infamous windows boot manager screen appears with 2 options. 1) Windows setup and; 2) Windows Vista. Choosing 1, the installation hangs and requires shutting down the computer. Choosing option 2, starts windows vista and cancels windows7 installation. Basically I have been road-blocked and cannot complete the install of Windows7. all the while you look at the little book that comes with the software that says ” Welcome to your PC, simplified”
Windows 7, welcome to my garbage can!

Couldn’t agree more. I’m upgrading from vista 64 bit to windows 7 (should be called 666) home 64 bit. The install deleted my wireless app, killing connectivity, I had to do a restore to get the app back and get rid of the window 7 crap. NICE JOB MS

My drivers are a mess. My HP’s volume rocker and mute button have a delay in them. It might be fixed with a driver update, but the update they gave in the HP website for Win7 did not fix it.

Also, my PC’s resolution resets to the lowest when I restart or turn on my PC.

I like the new features though. They really made the desktop experience better.

By Far this has been the best experience upgrading Windows I have ever done, I ugraded from Vista 64 bit to W7 64 bit on a Toshiba Laptop, asside from taking close to two hours everything went very smooth, just put the DVD in clicked install now two hours later I was back to normal no issues what so ever. very satisfied this time with Microsoft.

I honestly feel that a product should do more than simply work to impress people.

I usually find something needs to go above and beyond expectations to be great.

Out of the box I tried streaming an on-line radio station. The audio stuttered and sputtered and basically gagged on the audio stream . I tried a few tweaks which ameliorated the problem but who in the general public is going to know about tweaking the OS to improve audio performance? All they know is that the music keeps skipping. Next I tried to print out a document. Windows 7 did not recognize my HP LaserJet 1020 as a printer; it merely recognized it as an “unspecified” device on the USB bus. I scoured the HP web site and tried Windows Update to obtain a driver, but to no avail. So now my printer sits inaccessible and unusable. That’s when I decided enough was enough. I restored XP from a backup, putting me not one but TWO versions behind the current version of Windows.

Instead of Windows 7 I think they should call this Vista 2.0. Keep your money in your pockets, folks.

Thusfar, I am unable to upgrade from Windows 32bit Home premium to Win 7 32bit Home Premium. During install I am asked to uninstall several incompatible programs before completing the install. 2 of the programs I can’t find as an installed app (One click fixes and Google Toolbar). I don’t know what one click fixes is. I can’t uninstall these, therefore Win 7 will not complete the upgrade. I tried several times.

One click fixes!I was facing this issue sometimes when I upgrade my windows versions. I think click fixes might be a software you didn’t uninstalled it properly before!
So, you can again install and try to uninstall it.Then you may not prompt with ?.All the best!

I just bought a new laptop today [sony vaio] with windows 7. After configuring wireless connection on web one touch option on the machine, I am not able to run any programs. I am troubleshooting the issue for last 3 hrs, this is not where I want to be on the first day of my new laptop. Looks like the OS - Windows 7 is a crap.

I “upgraded” from Vista to Windows 7. It said that you would not lose any files. It did specify some programs that may not work but nothing about pictures. Needless to say, it did not transfer any FILES. It tranferred folders but no files. Lost all of my family photos, work files from MS Office etc. Buyer beware.

Windows 7 is basically where OS X 10.4 (Tiger) was years ago….

  9. Mark L. says:

    Too much has changed.
The new task bar takes up more than 10% of the screen. I find it becoming too full.

When I move windows, I accidentally activate the new maximize feature.

I feel like I have to learn everything over again.
