Nokia N900: UK Release Date pushed back to November

Nokia N900: UK Release Date pushed back to November

By: Alan Ng | October 22, 2009 | 19 Comments

Just as our faithful UK readers were getting over the initial delay of the highly sought after Nokia N900, we have just received word that UK stock reserved for Nokia Stores has been delayed until mid-November at the earliest.

We have had various releases dates flying around for the N900, but October 30th, seemed like the solid date after all the setbacks. Sadly, that date has been been pushed back to November 16th according to an email we recieved from MobilePhonesDirect – an official partner with Nokia Retail.

A portion of the email received can be seen below:

Delivery of Nokia N900 stock into our Nokia stores has unfortunately been delayed by two weeks to w/c 16th November. The delivery when it arrives will be the first N900 stock in the UK and orders will be dispatched on a first ordered, first serve, basis directly from our Nokia stores.

So there we have it. We have to admit, we didn’t expect ‘another’ delay after the initial one. Pretty disappointing if you ask us. Let us know your reaction to the news.

I also just got off a webchat with MobilePhonesDirect and got given the same news. I’ve been on pre-order there for a while now and I’m getting a bit fed up really.

Nokia are already treading on thin ice with their smartphone customers. We had similar delays on the N96 and from what I can recall the N97 too. I’ve made plans to cancel my existing contract and port my number etc – I’ve got such a small margin now that I may need to reconsider my options.

This is already Nokia’s last chance with me and they’re starting to blow it even before release!

Don’t go banding around an October release date if you can’t keep to it….

Yet another delay from Nokia! I’d originally had confirmation from my Nokia dealer that they were expecting stock on 20th October and then 28th October. Now we are looking at the 16th November! I’ve just cancelled my order and stick with my iPhone 3Gs.

This was Nokia’s one and only chance to get me to look at an alternative to the iPhone and they’ve blown it.

    When will they learn.

This delay is a joke, i’m going to stick with my ericsson t98 world!

I’m glad MobilePhonesDirect told you guys it had been set back because they certainly haven’t told me! Not impressed with Nokia for setting it back but also not impressed with MobilePhonesDirect for not letting me know.

What? Last chance? Not good enough? Get over yourselves. I’ll wager if it’s a good product you’ll get it when it comes out anyway. What’s the rush? What if their initial release date was Nov 16. Would it still be unacceptable? It’ll be out when it’s out. It just means you might be the 2nd person in your part of the world to get one instead of the first.

ok so if Nokia supplied cars and you had the latest model on preorder for over 3 months and every time you rang the dealership they just told you they have had some “issues” and delivery will be delayed as to when we cant tell you
you would be still be so complacent??

Thats poor business no matter what you sell or how important you think your company is.
They should have just started with available in 6-8 months time, instead they said earlier and now loose creditability every time the date changes.

If customers go to other brands due to disappointment
thats there choice and Nokias’ loss in revenue

is the n900 just being sold sim free or will it be available on contract? if so which networks?

  • Jamie Pert

It is available on contract too, currently I’m not 100 percent what networks will be offering the handset, however one I am sure of is T-Mobile and possibly O2.

  • hype06

    thank you :)

Come on Nokia…with the success of the iphone, and your 3rd quarter numbers($$$$) begin bad and the limited to no success of the n97, lets get it out or maybe its the nokia fan in me talking (proud owner of the n80, n93i, n95, n95 8gb, n96, n97, n810 tablet) i just want the phone fast

  • andy

shocking i am now left with no phone as current contract runs out in two days and i have also arranged to port my number come on nokia make up your mind …..or will it be the end of november or mid december by this rate santa will be delivering them

  • Alan Ng

Not an ideal situation is it Andy..I’m sure there are a lot more people in your position too.

Let’s just hope the N900 doesnt receive anymore setbacks.

  • Simon

Does anyone know what has caused the delay?
I would like to think that the phone has all the bugs removed by the time it comes to official release… but how big a bug has caused this delay!?

  • harry

man i ve been waiting for this phone for about 2 months now… i cant wait no more.. i sold my iphone to save money for N900 and now using a flip phone. Nokia needs to make up their mind

  • Max

Hey everyone relax delays happen things go wrong. Do you really think that Nokia give a f*** when you come out with ooo I’m gonna cancel my order, this was their last chance and now they blown it keep your girly comments to yourself and be patient good things come people who wait!!

  • Chronic

Yeah Nokia is probably expecting some impatient people to cancel orders, but they know the majority of people are not severely retarded.

Rather Nokia delay and iron out bugs than the consumer getting stuck because of them. This happens with gaming where developers are pushed by publishers, and the game is released but you have to wait for a million patches anyway.

It also means Nokia is taking this release fairly seriously, they know what is at stake and they cannot afford another disaster.

Spoke to Nokia(uk) today – release date: 6th November, sim free!?

  • Sk

Nokia has once again delayed their latest product ( nothing new)as they are the masters in announcing first envious list of specs for their new release and keeps on working for months and months after that. There must be some big issues with n900 which is taking so long for nokia people to solve. IMO leave the fisrt batch for hungry enthusiast and wait for the second batch of n900 which shall be more stable (hope so).
Nokia if you think people will be loyal to you with such delaying strategies than you are wrong. Everyone has become smart and this time of recession people don’t just want to waste their money on something half baked product which will be pain in the neck like your earlier n97.
Hope some nokia guys read this, take a printout and put on the display board of their conference room so that next time before announcing delay of their next product they know the reaction of people.

I’ve just recieved an email from mobilephonesdirect.co.uk saying it is now further delayed until December 3. I can’t say I’m left with a warm fuzzy feeling that this latest date will be hit either, but fingers crossed. Now, where do I get yet another PAC code since they keep expiring?
