Motorola Droid Phone Review: Google Android 2.0

The Motorola Droid Phone that will be available on the Verizon network by the end of the month will come with the much talked about Google Android 2.0 OS. BGR has already spent a little time with the phone and thought they would offer a mini review; the in-depth review will come later.

The Droid phone has a slim design, although slightly thicker than the iPhone 3GS. However, we have to remember that the Droid does have a QWERTY-slider, making it the thickest handset of its kind. BGR believe that this is the fastest Android smartphone they have used; this surely has something to do with running on Android 2.0 and its TI OMAP3430 processor.

The capacitive display is a dream to use, BGR admit that it is the best screen that they have seen or used on an Android phone. The unit that they have is not final, so its QWERTY keyboard with soft-touch rubberized keys could change in the final production model.

This is the most impressive Google Android phone to-date; Verizon and Motorola have done a great job. The phone will not hurt iPhone 3GS sales, but Apple will now be looking over its shoulder, wondering what the second generation of this phone will be like.

I am looking forward to getting one of these phones. Eveyone else has a Iphone but for some reason I think that the Android is going to be better once they get everything up to speed.

I really need a phone to use for blogging and tracking my nature pictures website performance. The full qwerty keyboard will make this easier to use than an Iphone.

It would be great if there will be some way to interface this with my Canon 5d mark ii so I can upload images from the forest.

“The phone will not hurt iPhone 3GS sales…” totally untrue. droid is much slimer and thicker than iPhone and has alot of things that are much better than iPhone. and also for example me, I’m a Verizon Wireless costumer and do not want to switch to at&t, and I will definately buy droid, of course iPhone is a great phone but at&t looses to Verizon, so apple would get affected too. Apple should be worried.

Much slimmer (assuming you just spelt it wrong) and thicker? Slimmer and thicker are opposites so what exactly are you trying to say here? I think these guys know what they’re talking about and in electronics the first model released is almost always problematic in some way. The only exception I can think of actually is the first iPhone. If peoples biggest complaint is the camera on the phone then maybe just use the 8 megapixel digital camera that is getting dusty in the drawer. That’s still better than the droid’s camera. If you’re desperate to take sparkling nature landscapes on your cell phone try the Sony Ericsson but as for smart phone technology iPhone has got it down to a science. This was written from my iPhone 3GS by the way.

unfortunately, i have just found out that you cannot make a call through a bluetooth device hands free with the droid. you have to go to the screen of the droid and use the voice dial, say the number, and then click on the number or name that shows up on the screen. this is horrible. how could google let that slip by. you can answer an incoming call with the bluetooth device, but not make a hands free call. really, really bad. this is a danger and should be fixed immediately by google.
