New Xbox Update: Risk to Unauthorized Storage Devices

By: Jamie Pert | October 19, 2009 | Leave a Comment

According to a recent article on SlashGear it seems that the upcoming update for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 may break compatibility between the console and unauthorized storage devices.

Chances are that the unauthorized storage devices at risk will be be cheap imitations of Microsoft’s official memory cards, the fact that compatibility will be broken will mean any data stored on the device may no longer be accessible.

If you currently use an “unauthorized third-party storage device” it is advised that you back up all data on there either to the Xbox’s HDD or to an official memory card.

We do not have a breakdown of what memory cards are considered “unauthorized” therefore if you think you are at risk I would seriously taking some action before it is too late.

The update should be being rolled out next week, for more information check out SlashGear.
