BlackBerry Curve 8330 and 8330m: OS 4.5.0.175 Now Official

By: Jamie Pert | October 19, 2009 | 8 Comments

It seems to be a busy day in-terms of BlackBerry handset OS releases, earlier today we reported that OS 4.7.0.167 for the BlackBerry Storm 9530 has been released, we are now hearing that OS 4.5.0.175 has been released for BlackBerry Curve 8330 and 8330m handsets.

As with the other release mentioned earlier no official change-log has been posted, therefore until we hear more we will assume that most changes to the OS are to rectify bugs.

Currently Sprint are the only carrier offering the OS update, it can be located here, as with any update like this we recommend backing up all your personal data and ensuring you have adequate battery life, also if you are updating a handset which is not on Sprint’s network follow IntoMobile’s advice here.

Have you installed the update? What changes have you noticed so far?

I did this via wireless update and it wiped out my complete address book. Seriously backup your data before you attempt this update.

Just downloaded last night. It warned me it would take up to 2 hours and it took a little over 1 hour. I didn’t back up my date like I should have but everything saved automatically for me, except my log-in for facebook.(isn’t a big deal) After the update it took me through the “setup wizard” again and so far has only noticed people in my contacts (who are friends on facebook) now have their company name attached. Even my theme / background image stayed. Maybe it’s just what I want to believe, but the apps seem to open & run a bit faster then they used to. If I see anything else after more investigating, I’ll re-post..

I was prompted today for the update, downloaded and installed in 1 hour. No noticeable changes just yet and no loss of saved data. Hopefully someone will figure out the purpose and pass it on. Hook em.

After reading these post I started thinking Idownloaded the wrong thing. The full download took 10 mins and the update took 30 mins. I haven’t seen anything new.

The upgrade downloaded in about 30 minutes (DSL) and installed without a problem. it performed the usual thorough backup and installed without intervention. HOWEVER, it completely wiped the unit in advance of activation. Even after \”restoration\” finished it required reactivation to sync the unit. Since we use one account only with BES while annoying it wasn\’t unbearable. Activation completed in about 30 minutes.
    OS Reports: BB8330 – V4.5.0.138 platform 3.4.0.30

The upgrade has gotten rid of the annoying \”hash\” sound when you answer a landline. Pick up is now crisp and clear. No other noticable changes.

This Update from BlackBerry wiped out my contacts, txt history….basically everything.
Amazing how a company can get away with so much disruption to people.

After i downloaded the new software via wireless update for verizon wireless, i didnt lose any of my contacts. but now the sound is weird. my notification sounds( SMS text, BBM, alarm, etc) for my whole phone would turn off. the only way i could get sound again was to restart my whole phone. the one pro i found about this update was that they have the timer log again showing on your screen when you’re on the phone.
