Dell Laptops and Desktops: Sales fall behind Acer
By: Peter Chubb | October 16, 2009 | Leave a CommentFollowing on from our article yesterday, we thought we would offer you a few more details on the news that Dell sales of laptops and desktops have fallen behind Acer. Dell has been pushed from the No.2 spot for worldwide sales, but HP is still the No.1 in manufacturer rankings.
HP have been at the top spot for a few years now since pushing Dell off, they in turn held the second spot since then. Dell will now have to go back and rethink its business strategy following this latest development. It is not all bad news for Dell though, as they still hold the top spot for the best selling laptops and desktops in the U.S.
The Inquirer reports that the figures that were conducted by Gartner and IDC, they report that Dell were the only PC maker to see a drop in sales since Q3 of 2008. There is good reason for this, although they still remain No.1 in the U.S., sales there have dropped at an alarming rate, it seems that businesses are holding on to what little cash they have.
Over 80 percent of Dell sales are said to be from companies, and as budgets have been reduced, the first things to suffer are the purchase of new PCs. HP and Acer seem to sell more to the consumer, and with great offers being offered, consumers always seem to love a bargain.
